Things to think consider when buying an Android Phone

Is there anything i should need to know when buying with Android Phones?

Comments

  • hardware specs to suit your needs
    what system its running and what can it be upgraded to
    and probably buy a phone with a decent sized development team to get more custom-ability (meaning - a popular phone and not one that nobody has heard of)

  • cheaper ones don't have front cameras

  • Certain apps require larger resolutions or are more resource intensive, such as games, so definitely consider these if you really do want to make full use of the Android system.

    Android also suffers from large fragmentation so consider this if you get a less popular phone, since app-developers won't be able to test and support all models and versions.

    And just with touch screens in general, remember to consider resistive vs capacitive, screen type e.g. AMOLED, and screen size- particularly if the phone doesn't have a physical keyboard. If you get a smaller 2.8" screen, the on-screen keyboard will take up most of the screen, and may be hard to use if you have larger hands.

  • Lots of things to consider… but as mentioned above one of the most important is screen size. Go for 4" at least.
    I have a Sony X10 and love it but others have had trouble with it. The same applies to all droid phones though when you look around, none are perfect and the operators are the biggest problem most of the time.
    They do take a little patience and learning but are fantastic devices when you get used to them.
    If I was to buy another one I would be looking at HTC brand.

    The "sweet spot" for an Android phone is usually in the $160~$200 range. Phones in this price range will generally handle most things you throw at it, save for high end 3d games.

    For e.g LG Optimus One, Huawei Sonic, or a Garmin A50 and the recently released Samsung Galaxy Gio
    (The Samsung Galaxy GIO differs from the other 3 in that it has a more powerful CPU at 800mhz).

    You could spend around $100 for a low end one such as an X1 / IDEOS / Moto Flipout but you'll find the
    * low resolution screen
    * small screen size,
    * low performance
    * extremely low battery life (usually 1 day)
    * lack of multitouch and official OS updates

    isn't worth the $50 or $60 sacrifice.
