I've heard good things about ahm from a couple of people lately. Looking at signing up for a Family Hospital + Extras package. What does ozb think about ahm? The packages seem reasonably priced.

Found this deal for 1 month free on the ahm website.

  • Must maintain 60 days of coverage to be eligible.
  • Only valid for hospital + extras
  • Payment must be direct debit

I've been with them for over a year - they're great. When I was buying initially, the sales person (Aussie lady) was very helpful. I'd been with an old school Commonwealth Bank health fund for a while where I still had to hand write and scan (or even mail) claim forms, so the fact I can do them in seconds online with ahm has been fantastic. They pay fast too.

My only advice is that the different packages and products aren't all in the same place or clearly presented (and some aren't on the site at all, or too well hidden!) , so calling the call centre is prob the best move.

  • "ahm health insurance is a business of Medibank Private Limited ABN 47 080 890 259. ’ahm health insurance’ and ’ahm’ are references of Medibank Private Ltd trading as ahm health insurance"

  • What does no waits mean?

    • waiting periods waived off

  • Is it for ALL extras or just selected? Been wanting to get orthodontics as an extra for a while now. Just couldn't be bothered to pay for 12 months just to claim 1.5 months worth of premium.

    • Only 2 and 6 month wait periods are waived.

Gave them a call. They are not a good cover for our family.
We are currently with NIB which gives 75% back for extras.

we use dental extensively. kids, braces, bridges, root canals.
    Chiro, and podiatry.

AHM return on these services are crap compared to NIB.

I spoke to the rep and did a live comparison.

I went to Dentist last week for some periodontal work.
first visit + half side clean was charged $1190. NIB paid back $880.

AHM said it would pay back $250. This is on their Top extras cover.

Definitely not the right private health cover company for our family.

Could be different for you all.
Best to check what you would use it for and compare.

    • I went to the dentist last week for a checkup and clean/fluoride treatment and got charged $181. Ahm paid me $134.60 back, so I’m pretty happy with them. I’ve got Lifestyle Extras. Don’t think they sell that one anymore though.

  • All policies are different, let’s face it they do this on purpose so you can’t really choose well. Hurrah for privatisations! That said, I was with them. Cheap but very little back on my cover. Good if you never significantly claim. No hassles at all. In the end my dentist was with Bupa. I was sick of coping it in the neck from them every time so I moved.

  • When i did research i found HBF was the most value for money. very happy with our cover coming from CBHS.

  • And if you join with code KOGANMONTH you also get $60 Kogan credit
