So, maybe I'm just having a cry and a whinge here (let's face it, 99% positive I am), but Kayo recently announced that they've finally launched their Kayo Sports app on Samsung TVs. I went home to find it on mine, except it's not there. I see on their website they say only TVs 2018+ can get the app.
I have a Samsung UA65MU7000 - a 2017 model TV. Boo.
I asked support why (silly, as they're not the engineers behind it) and they quote that Kayo uses advanced streaming and older models will have hardware limitations preventing it. Which is crazy, given on this TV I can comfortably stream 4k on Netflix, Stan and Disney+, there are already Foxtel apps for it, and it even has Steam Link available.
Is this just Kayo being lazy and not wanting to support a few extra models? I'm under the impression the 2017 models aren't even that different under the hood to the 2018 models. Does anybody know?
I come from a background that makes me appreciate the difficulty in maintaining an app for so many different devices - but this is a company that prides themselves on the 'watch on most devices!' kind of thing and is… you know - a streaming service. So I guess I expect some higher standard from them?
And with a restriction like only 2018+ models, surely there's a lot of people in the same boat as me?
I'm really just looking for a reason as to why this choice may not be arbitrary and I can have some sympathy for Kayo here.
Why you hold this business in such high regard, you sound like a public relations campaign.
