that bad? how was android experience?
It was a curved 55" Series 7 or 8. The light bleed around the edges and the clouds were enough to put myself off. Was a majorly defected panel.
Personally I much prefer the idea of a plug-in Android box.
This one is much better with minimal to no bleed on the side. Its the latest model - I think its a rebranded TCL or similar as most of the inhouse brand TVs (from JB Hifi, etc) look similar.
I'd say for the price its more than worth it. It looks pretty great with native 4k, especially bright nature shows. And I watched the entire the Expanse season 4 on it last weekend, so the darks, though not great are also OK.
I've got the dumb curved 55 and I'm very happy with the picture for the money. I'm using a Chromecast Ultra for 4K content. Being a cheap panel it does have it's limitation.
"Happened to have Sunrise on the TV in the work lunch room…" - a likely excuse…
This is Kogan's latest model of Smart TVs. I bought one for $499 on black Friday. The best thing about this is that it has Dolby Vision, though i've noticed its wonky at times (screen suddenly brightening or dimming mid scene).
Other than that, it is a good 4k TV, with inbuilt Chromecast, which means you can get all the major streaming apps.
Blacks are not super black though, and I notice colour banding - so if you're pedantic about colour and contrast, stick to a QLED or OLED option.
Lastly, don't buy a soundbar / speakers until you've heard the TV speakers. They are not great but generally ok - and I regret spending another $60 to get a soundbar when I could have lived with the speakers of the TV.
No offence but frankly a $60 soundbar can only do so much. I guess it's ok paired with a cheap Kogan but if you enjoy your home theatre I'd spend a bit more on both the tv and the soundbar.
No offense taken. I'm a bottom barrel Ozbargainer who wants his cake but doesn't like paying for it. If anyone buys this TV, I'd like to assure them that the speakers are on par for what they pay for.
That soundbar is technically more than 10% of the price of the TV, and indeed it does sound better (also it is front facing compared to the TV's rear-placement, upward-facing speakers).
But really, I'm no audiophile - both options are fine to me, and I suspect would be fine for most people who are shopping this this range.
On a side note (just whingeing) - I wanted to buy a second hand audio set that was better quality than that sound bar but the missus wanted a new one (not sure why). Anyway, so this was a compromise and we bought the sound bar in person while we waited for Kogan to deliver the TV. When we received the new TV and heard the sound from the TV speakers, we realised our peasant ears were more than happy with the TV speakers. By this point we had opened and set up the speakers, and I think the hassle of returning it would have been like $20 at least, so we decided to just keep it.
To add insult to injury, we had to spend another $50 to buy a TV stand as these V-shaped legs at the end of the TVs were just a tad longer than our TV table (125.8 cm vs our 120cm table).
The moral of the story here is that we could have bought a better $600 TV if we thought of all these in the first place. But at least I can hope someone else doesn't make the same mistake
You might as well get second hand sony or reputable brand than this tv..
Hey, I'm not sure if this interests anyone, but Kogan giftcards are 10% off. So if you spent $450 to get $500 credit via giftcards, then spent the extra $29, it brings it down to $479.
Its also saying Free shipping when I click on the link.
The website says you can stack the giftcards to your account, so theoretically, it should work (but don't hate me if it doesn't).
I've never owned a Kogan tv, and some reviews are making me pretty wary of jumping in.
My old 1080p HiSense has been good to me, and I'm thinking I should just buy in-person when not buying a big brand.
Bought one once then sold it…
