Nintendo Switch - PS4/Xbox Controller

Hey guys,

Has anyone had any experience using PS4 / Xbox controller to play Nintendo Switch on TV using the 8BITDO (https://www.8bitdo.com/wireless-usb-adapter/)

Anyone have anything to share? Are these things good in terms of the user gameplay experience etc?

  • Yes, it's the exact controller adaptor I have. I use my xBawx controller to play Splatoon 2, because the Switch controllers are horrible.

The only thing I would say is, update the adaptor before you start using it. There are some shitty bugs in the earlier firmware releases.

I have not tried the Switch Pro controller to compare it with, but the xBox controller feels every bit as good as it does on the xBox. (I have a PS4, but I hate their controllers, so I have never tried them.)

  • Yep, I've got the exact same adapter sitting on my desk right now with my switch. I've used both the pro controller and my PS4 controller. One thing probably worth noting is that the pro controller has a more subtle rumble, whereas the dualshock 4 is much larger. But apart from that, it's great. Never had any issues. We play at work at lunch time, so we just got a second adapter for the console (need one per controller). If you do that, note they both wont fit into the Switch's dock since they're too fat so we just used USB extension cables and plugged them into that. Also battery level doesn't display on the switch for the Dualshock, so it'll just die once it's out of batteries.

  • interesting, just got switch for the kids, we have a couple of PS4 controllers.
Where's the best/cheapest place to get these. assume you need 2 to use 2 controllers?

    • I've been eyeing on these adapters too and I came across Amazon selling these for $25.99 (+P&H). You'll need to buy one per controller.

As silly as it may sound, probably better off to buy a third-party controller for not much more in comparison - Big W have some for $35 for example.

      • You can get them for $20 with postage from eBay. Cheap 3rd party controllers are a bit average. If you have a ps4 controller, i'd opt for them over those cheaper controllers.

    • You do indeed need two for two controllers. eBay is usually cheapest, and see my comment above about needing space to fit two of these into the switch dock.

  • For PS4 controller to Switch, I use:

    • wireless connectivity - COOV N100 Pro Wireless Controller Converter
    • wired connectivity - Gam3Gear Brook Super SW Converter For PS3 PS4 To Switch (which even feeds your Logitech G29 wheel!)
