Where to Find Cheap 256GB SDDs?

I’ve been looking on eBay for a while and the prices that I find seem to be higher than stores. I haven’t seen many deals for SSDs in a while.

Would Aliexpress be a better choice in buying bulk example 5 or so just for builds?

  • Sata 2.5, sorry should have mentioned

    • How much you looking to pay for a 256GB SATA 2.5"? You're not gonna get much lower than $40 unless u go Aliexpress unknown china specials.

      • Are the aliexpress Chinese ones decent or destined to failure?

Shake your magic 8 ball and you will get your answer.

        • Depends on the brand and capacity with Chinese cheapies as some use subpar/recycled flash and almost always have no cache. My 120GB Reeino used flash memory from the factory that failed quality control, while my 960GB Reeino gets the same benchmark speeds as my WD Blue 1TB SSD.

Best Chinese brand I've dealt with was Ramsta (when they existed) and KingDian.

@Clear: Beware of Ramsta mine was shit kept failing and returned ridiculously slow timings steer clear

When I complained and Clear (the op of the deal) arranged for ramsta to contact me (Thanks Clear)

all I got was a broken poorly spelt text "u send picture", to every thing I sent, what a bullshit response, dodgy Chinese sellers all rely on making it way to hard to respond in the hope you just throw it in the bin and walk away which I did.

They all can speak clear (written) English when you want to purchase direct but "no speekee" when warranty is involved

            Beware

            • @ShannonN: You can always message me further if you're ever unhappy with the response.

The thing with Ramsta is that they used flash from whoever was the most cost effective at the time. I purchased at release and the speeds are really good. I guess later on they cheaped out and used inferior flash.

Ramsta have closed up shop recently so perhaps that's part of the reason?

              • @Clear: Thanks mate the one I opened had no ram Dramless dodgy as hell . and that was from one of the first deals I believe too late now to worry about just pissed I did 90 on it rather than pay 10 more for brand name

@ShannonN: DRAMless usually isn't the issue. Rather what flash they're using.

If you don't mind a DRAMless cheapie, I've seen the 240 GB BX500 go for $35 a few times over the last couple months. That's about as cheap as you'll get a SSD from a reputable brand.

  • it depends how quick you need, want it.most of my electronic I use Kogan and Catch and have no returns, also google Jb hifi

    WD Green 240GB is $39 @ MSY
Crucial BX500 is $43 delivered @ Amazon AU

I wouldn't buy a no name brand when the above are so cheap.

  • Try searching on www.staticice.com.au

Pretty good search engine for Australian prices

  • thanks everyone, just wondering what dramless is and what the difference in flash would do
