60

Seems a good price for this one.

Steam description:

Sid Meier's Civilization: Beyond Earth is a new science-fiction-themed entry into the award-winning Civilization series. Set in the future, global events have destabilized the world leading to a collapse of modern society, a new world order and an uncertain future for humanity. As the human race struggles to recover, the re-developed nations focus their resources on deep space travel to chart a new beginning for mankind.

As part of an expedition sent to find a home beyond Earth, you will write the next chapter for humanity as you lead your people into a new frontier and create a new civilization in space. Explore and colonize an alien planet, research new technologies, amass mighty armies, build incredible Wonders and shape the face of your new world. As you embark on your journey you must make critical decisions. From your choice of sponsor and the make-up of your colony, to the ultimate path you choose for your civilization, every decision opens up new possibilities.

Steam page for the collection - note it's not just the base game!

Sid Mier's Alpha Centauri (the "spiritual" predecessor) to this game was one of my very favourite games of all time.

But this was a huge disappointment for me as a successor.

Still a decent game but probably not worth the money unless you really like turn based 4X games (and even then, there are better options out there)

Pretty much exactly my thoughts as well. I found it disappointing.

      • darn I was considering getting this. can you explain how you find Beyond Earth disappointing compared to the classic SMAC?

The old Alpha Centauri had really interesting and distinct factions (the Hive, Morgans, Gaians, Believers, University, etc). A really spooky and absorbing world with an interesting story behind it. Going back now, you can see the holes in some of the game play, but they nailed the atmosphere and story.

But in the interests of "gameplay considerations". In Beyond Earth, the factions are all basically the same so that you could play any way (all 3 progression trees or expansionist/militarist)with any faction. Which makes them all feel very samey with no interesting variety.

Also the world is bland and uninteresting.

It really is just a Civ4 reskin with all the factions being made bland and samey so as to make things more balanced for competitive play as the expense of any interest and variety.

I'd have to go back to play again to give you a more detailed explanation (which I won't because I can't be bothered). But yeah, even now, i'd rather play SMAC again than Beyond Earth

This is exactly the comment I came to look for. Alpha Centauri was SO GOOD! I haven't played a game since 2009 or so but would try this if it was a decent sequel.
