Best raw price for this machine I have seen and second best overall price after the Father’s day offer which included a $50 eftpos card.

Only issue is, the dispatch is reading at 1 - 2 months. So as long as you are not in a hurry to get the machine, it’s a good deal.

Don’t forget to apply your 7% cashback @ CashRewards, or 8% cashback @ ShopBack.

Looks like an Amazon Price match, as you can currently get this unit at The Good Guys on eBay for the same price (after 20% discount code P20GUYS has been applied, and not including $56.04 delivery. Free click and collect possible but depending on local store availability).

For some reason I read the deal title as bamboo coffee maker and that made me want it more lol.

Got this on the fathers day deal as well as the Breville Smart Pro grinder. Combined with good beans, a dialled in grind and a decent tamping technique (pretty easy with youtube videos) and you're making coffee as good as your local in the comfort of your own home. One of the best buys I ever made.

    • Did you change your group handle and baskets?

      • +1

I changed the basket to non pressurized, much better!

Does the group handle make a huge difference?

        • +2

Naked can have quite an effect but that'd mostly be due to you fine tuning your distribution and tamping. Otherwise the differences would be negligible if you're using a thoroughly warmed group handle with the same technique

        • Do these machines come with both pressurised and non-pressurised baskets or do you have to buy the non-pressurised baskets separately?

      • +1

I haven't but now you ask I might look in to it. I've started dialling in better so switching to a non-pressurised basket may yield better results now.

    • Agreed! I bought at the same time. Still refining my tamping technique, but I'm looking forward to practicing over the Christmas break.

    • What's your grind setting? Mine's on 14 for non-pressurised double basket.

      • It surely depends on the beans? My current beans are on 16 but I've had previous ones on 14. Plus I've heard it's slightly different for each grinder.

    • How do you find the semi-auto milk frother? I was tossing up between this and the Breville Infuser, but there hasn't been a good deal on that model in ages.

      • +1

Not a huge amount of froth on lowest temperature setting. Good otherwise. Different milks also give different results.

        • It's more about quality of froth than quantity. Good quality froth should have a homogeneous consistency like wet paint with small micro-foam rather than large bubbles sitting on top of flat milk.

          • +1

@damfrog: Yeah. Very dense foam produced with this machine.

          • +1

@damfrog: I think the quality of the foam is amazing. Search for online reviews for further info but it's great foam and a great time saver in my opinion.

      • I love it. Easy to clean, good results and can heat to a very high temp if you like your milk hot

  • Great price, rather price match with TGG

    • +1

You will get it quicker I am sure, but you won’t get your cashback from CashRewards or Shopback.

      • True but 5% GC’s make it even better :)

        • i was denied a price match from the essendon TGG store, they said they cant match it because they "dont normally do price match with amazon australia", delivery will be in 1-2 months and that its lower than the staff price ($380)

  • sorry noob question. i dont want to buy grinder(may be later). Can i just buy ground coffee and use it in portafilter?

    • +1

Technically you can, but you will get poor to ok results. Being able to vary the grind size according to the bean type/age/roast is an important variable and needed to get a great result on this (or any espresso) machine.

      • Thanks Coley. Just wondering can i use something like Breville BCG200BSS The Coffee & Spice Grinder, Brushed Stainless Steel? I dont want to spend $150+ for breville grinder pro at this stage? Thanks for your help.

        • I believe it may work but I have never used one. The Smart Grinder is alot better as it will provide a more consistent and repeatable grind size. Perhaps check out the coffee snobs forum and see if anyone has any comments on it. Just don't go too deep or you'll end up buying a $2000 grinder!

To get better results you may be better off getting fresh beans from a decent roaster and get them to grind them for you right then and there. You may even be able to able to buy in small qtys (250g), try them out and get them to adjust the grind for you each time until you find a good one that works for you.

        • From what I've read it could lead to very inconsistent results. If you're going to spend $300+ on a machine I would stretch to the grinder if I were you. You can get them for about $150 on ebay sometimes. The grind is such a important part of the process. For example, I used pre-ground beans for the first couple of weeks and the difference was night a day once I moved to the smart pro and found the right grind setting.

The other big advantage is that you grind the beans fresh for each coffee.

        • Those spinning blade spice "grinders" would not serve you well for espresso. A consistent grind can only be obtained by good burr grinders. A consistent adjustable burr grinder is the essential foundation for good espresso, probably more important than the espresso machine itself.

    • +1

Manual grinder would be a cheaper option. Otherwise, Breville smart grinder + aeropress

  • Has anyone tried to froth almond milk with this machine?

    • I haven't, but if you are looking for almond milk that froths then either Australia's Own Barista almond milk or Milk Lab are good choices, and I think both would likely work with this machine

  • $200 smart grinder is good for the price but by no means superb. $400 gets you the best hand grinder that will be as consistent as the best machine grinders.

On the smart grinder (does not require shimming), I use setting 1 or sometimes 2 but often wish it was a bit me consistent and slightly finer
