ACT Legalises e-Scooters/e-Skateboards/e-Bikes etc..

They have just announced that e-scooters etc will be legalised this Friday in the ACT. What are your thoughts on this?

“The changes will mean e-scooters can be ridden on footpaths and residential roads where there aren't footpaths. E-skateboards, other types of e-bikes, and even e-unicycles will also be legalised.

Speeds will need to be limited to 15km/h on footpaths and 25km/h on roads.

Road safety minister Shane Rattenbury is hoping they will help solve the 'final mile' of transport after commuters get off the bus or tram. People will be able to take them on public transport.

He also says riders will need to exercise common sense and be courteous to other commuters and pedestrians. As he put it, treat people as you'd treat your grandmother.”

  Not many instances of lifting restrictions on anything these days.
  Other states will surely follow so that we have one rule country-wide.

  Very logical! Can't wait for (backwards) NSW to follow suit or maybe unlikely since NSW is really an oversized and expensive nursing home.

  Waiting for VIC to follow, but expecting them to add additional rules so that they have something to issue fines for!

  It's good. Really foolish to have these relatively harmless inventions in the market without being able to legally use them.

  This 'final mile' problem was created by Mr Rattenbury and his government eight months ago when they scrapped many local routes and school services…

  Sounds good.

  However, e-scooters have become a bit of nuisance in Brisbane because people would just ride like idiots and park (discard) like idiots. I hope they treat their own e-scooters better.
