All of the Telstra staff I know went off their staff mobile plans to buy the $150 12-month 80Gb plan. This was the ozBargain of the year

  • +1

    Sensational deal. 25Gb a month for $25 a month

    • +3

      Sensational deal. 25Gb a month for $25 a month

It's a serviceable offering, but I don't know about "sensational".

For many the $30 monthly plan for 35gb with rollover will represent better value, and you're not committed to 6 months.

      • link

          • @ash2000: 35GB for First 3 months, then 20GB

            • @jtlim21c: They say that, but the promo is on going …. I've been on this plan for over 12 months…. The bonus data has always been issued.

Same with the aldi plans, they promote bonus data for 3 months, but the bonus persists inefinately.

              • @ash2000: Is it bad that Im still on Boosts $30 a month, with I think 3 gig a month, with 1 gig bonus each weekend? I never use it anyway…

                • +1

                  @Tuba: Lol.

You are the sort of customer telcos/resellers love!

At a minimum call Boost now and change to the $20 5GB plan….. NOW!

                  • @ash2000: I now remember why I didnt take advantage of earlier offers. I will now because this is the first one that really made a difference, 5 gig for 10 less (I get 7 now, but 1 is per weekend only), or same money for more data I wont use. But…

I just got off the phone with them and I have to call back closer to the date of the end of my plan period, or I lose the current prepaid amount. And then I have to reset up the auto payment to make it monthly billing… Apparently there is no technology available to just switch an existing customers current setup, to the alternative plan. If only we lived in an age of technology…

                    • @Tuba: At this rate you would be better off with one of the long expiry plans. E.g the 80gb for $150 for 12months. It equates to $12.50 a month. And works out well if you're like me and don't use your phone much for months at a time and then need to use it a lot over a few days where you're away from home or something. It's even cheaper if you get it from the coles deal. https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/505962 $135… so $11.25 a month. And it gets cheaper if you use flybuys etc. I get that you might not want to be locked into a plan like that, but if you don't use much data. It's a killer deal.

                      • @Cannix: Ive been on the plan for a few years so unless something drastic changes in the market I doubt being locked in is an issue for me… it is near 50% off though at $11.25

                        • @Tuba: Yeah. $11.25 for 6.66GB a month. Much better than the 5gb for $20 a month even if the price was the same. The rollover data is only rolling data over from the previous month so you would only get a max of 10gb to use in a single month if you didn't use any the month before. Having 80b to use at any time is far better.

      • The rollover isn't as good as it sounds. It rolls over once into the next month, but the previous rollover is gone. So you can only have one month rolling over into the next. It doesn't endlessly bank up, like it does with ALDI and some others. The $30 for 35gb is only 35gb for the first three months. After that, the bonus runs out and you will get 20gb per $30 recharge. Or 5gb if you recharge for $20.

I've been like an evangelist, encouraging people complaining about their phone plans to switch to Boost, so far I've recruited one Vodafone, One Telstra and a whole family that were on Optus to switch to Boost, so far everyone is happy. Particularly my sister who had her kids on Optus SIM plans to switch to Boost prepaid. Surprisingly I'm not on Boost as I'm stuck on a Telstra 24 month plan for another 3 months.

    • +7

you can buy it now and change over when plan ends :D

      • is there a cut off time as my 24 monnth plan ends in march 2020

  • Can I port in my number from telstra?

    • yes, you can

    • Yes you can but it can take extra time.. and some chasing up according to forums!

    • Port to a none Telstra provider (so no aldi) then port back into boost seems to be the easiest.

      • So Telstra => None telstra => Boost

Do you know what's the cheapest option for none Telstra provider?

        • +1

Catch or Kogan probably. If not in a hurry wait for the bonus cashback offers where you get paid to activate. Otherwise you can contact boost and they will send you out a blank sim for this part of the process AFAIK. So Telstra -> Blank sim -> Boost.

          • @Fiximol: Thanks matey. Do you know if there's any other faster route?
I want to port out before Telstra charged me another monthly fee for my expired plan.

            • @11CENTS: These are the only two methods I am aware of. You can try your luck with the telstra online chat/boost customer support, but the non Telstra telco route would probably be the quickest

        • +2

Just out of interest, did you substitute "non-" with "none" on purpose?

    • I had to call them to get a "blank" SIM posted to be as the $100 Boost card wouldn't work directly.
They kindly extended my Telstra 28day pre paid another 7 days for free to allow time. Then call again and switched in 5 mins

For those that are interested…. Office Works will price match the $150 12 month 80GB deal that Coles has for $135 from tomorrow +5%. I got it price matched yesterday as it was on the Boost website for $135.

    • can you link to the Coles deal,I am supposed to be going to Office works today and I will hit them up for 2xSIMs. Do you k ow when you need to activate it by ? What provider is Officeworks with ?

    • Not possible to price match at officeworks. Tried 5pm yesterday and they wouldn't because the Coles catalogue didn't start till midnight and Boost website shows $150. Tried first thing this morning and officeworks said there is no stock at the warehouse and all stores showing stock confirmed they actually don't have any even though they show as having some, so officeworks said it is not possible to order or purchase

      • I recall Officeworks were notorious for trying anything to avoid price match… the one at Maroochydore is a specialist at it. One of their salesman loves turning people away, his face lights up when he does it.

I never shop there anymore, like Harvey Norman too. Only if its last resort or I would be punishing myself by not going would I even consider them. They love your money, the smile when you walk in is to your money. They hate customers though.

  • when does the activation expire?

    • Same. My current contract ends March 2020

  • Can I port my number in from Optus?

    • Yes

      • Does anyone know the process of porting your number to this service?

  • How can I get this from a just expired Telstra Post-paid?
    Appreciate some help..

    • +1

Get this offer(this offer will have a sim which gets posted with the credits on it,

Get a blank sim from boost(assuming you are going to port the number)

Once the sim cards are received, call telstra to move your number to pre paid (took me 10 mins overall)

Call boost to port your number, you need to provide the blank sim serial number and also provide serial number from the boost sim where your credits are stored.

They will port your number to blank sim and then move the credits to blank sim.

Above is what I did before 2 months, and think this might work for you.

Above all, be patient with the contact center, they are located somewhere in south east Asia, and sometimes it's hard to understand.

      • Thanks! Ordered blank sim today..
        Will order this now..

  • Wanted to get 2 and put on my 6 months interest free card. Comes up as total $350!?!

    • Limited to one per customer in the fine print :/

  • +1

Optus deal is better? 365 days 120GB for $150

    • +1

the Optus one no international calls though, similar though if you dont care about that perk.

      • +2

Ignoring the fact that it’s Optus also

    • Anyone tried the Optus deal and know if it’s good or not?
      Thinking of porting to Optus.
      TIA

    • Optus is like Telstra Wholesale, as in Aldi etc. Less coverage than Telstra proper.
Boost is the entire Telstra network, much wider coverage… its top tier speed you lose. No 4GX, at least it was that way, its limited to 4G.

  • Going against the grain here but my experience with Boost was extremely poor. Ported to Boost from Aldi a week ago and my reception went from average to extremely poor. I'm in WA and even though Perth is now considered remote, I don't live in the bush. Customer service bounced me around from Boost to Telstra several times and even made me drive to the Telstra shop for a blank SIM which they couldn't provide a Boost client with! Ported back to Aldi. As I said, it's just my experience but if you're with Telstra and you're relatively happy and just want to save a few bucks, you may want to consider this.

    • +1

Your phone may not have the right antenna for Telstra/Boost…

      • But Aldi also uses Telstra so very odd

        • Aldi uses Telstra WHOLESALE. Thats not the same as Telstra proper. Wholesale is like Optus, Voda etc. Less coverage in general.
Boost uses the full Testra network of towers, but you lose the top tier of 4GX, you just get 4G.

      • Phone is a Motorola. It has all the bands required and they confirmed that it was fully compatible. I went through all the tests with both Boost and Telstra and this included testing with another phone which happened to be a Samsung. So definitely not a handset issue. They said it might be a faulty SIM card but the run around they gave me and number of days till I got a replacement SIM was enough to put me off. Boost support hand you over to Telstra support for issues they can't resolve and Telstra don't offer their full support because you're with Boost.

  • +1

Just a heads up for those porting from Telstra numbers - it's a little bit of a process. After you purchase a boost pre-paid SIM you'll need to do the following:

    • Call Boost on 1800 100 933 and request a special blank Boost Mobile SIM. They will ask you or the owner of your current SIM plan to verify your/their identity.

    • Blank SIM will be sent out within 2-3 business days: current orders for blank SIMs are taking longer due to holiday season.

    • When your blank SIM arrives call Boost again to activate it.

    • also if you are postpaid on telstra, they will convert you to prepaid on telstra first and then over to boost.

  • Hi,

Is this capped at 25 GB per month and then will revert back to 25GB on the following month? If not then what happens if I used 50GB a month and then 10GB on the following month, does it mean I only have 90GB to use on the remaining 4 months?

    • +1

      Yes to the 2nd question.

  • How long do we get before we have to activate?

  • if i but the 40$ plan for 20$. will it continue to be 20$ per 28 days or will it go back to 40$ after initial month

  • Do Boost use the full coverage of Telstra's 4G Network?

  • RCS with Boost, now that Telstra has recently enabled it?

  • research well before buying if you are from Telstra, its extremely hard and might take up to weeks for the processing time if you didn't plan well.

  • NEW CUSTOMERS ONLY

    Damn.

  • i gotta switch plans in january cause i'm coming off the work plan. seems like all the deals end for christmas - reckon there will be new deals in january or is it dry then?
