They actually dont comply with the AS/NZS 3000 as the power cable is not double insulated which is a requirement for 240v.
Surely if that's the case why are they allowed be sold in Australia?
In any case any self respecting electrician should easily be able to double insulate the 2 short power cables, right?

@akyeeeahdude: Confirmed - you can simply get an electrician to install it with a junction box. Junction boxes are only $5-10 so I don't know what the huge fuss is making out they are noncompliant. You just need to install them appropriately - no different to exterior lights that require a junction box because of the same issue. It's quite common.
@akyeeeahdude: It's not a huge fuss, i simply mentioned it so people are aware of it so they can ensure it's installed properly. When replacing an old detector, it can mean the different between needing to get in to the roof or not.
The wireless ones are definitely not. The wired ones not sure. Apparently it used to say that the interconnect feature wasn't compliant with AS 3876:2014 on the box and on the SAI global site, but couldn't find it on the SAI global site when I went looking, so maybe it changed, or maybe that particular feature doesn't have to be compliant with AS 3876:2014.

@akyeeeahdude: Yeah, that's not enough for QLD, it's just one of the requirements. The interconnect part isn't part of the standard, so when they say that the interconnect doesn't comply with that standard, I'm not sure whether that's actually a problem or just them pointing that out.

Guys and girls, just a word of warning - I bought three from the Good Guys ebay store and picked them up from a local store. The battery model was manufactured December 2017, marked replace by December 2027. I got two mains connected - one was manufactured May 2018 (replace by May 2028) and the other October 2018 (replace by October 2028).
I took them back straight away and two staff members seemed more than happy to replace with newer items - the Manager was not so positive/willing until we showed him the legislation on the QLD and then he accepted but again said the legislation only states the batteries need to be replaced after 10 years which is 100% incorrect and why I am now replacing my existing mains connected alarms as they are 10 years old. https://www.qfes.qld.gov.au/community-safety/smokealarms/Pag…

Existing smoke alarms manufactured more than 10 years ago must be replaced with photoelectric smoke alarms which comply with Australian Standards (AS) 3786-2014. (Note: the date should be stamped on the back)
Whilst the date isn't clearly marked on the box (only the device), you can get a clue from the serial number. The year is marked within the serial number - 2018 has an 18 present in the serial number whilst 2019 has 19 present. The box design of the 2019 stock is also different with the mains connected mnodel having a completely different box design with Google branding printed on it and the battery having a slightly different box design with a Google sticker slapped on it.
A very good point. The kmart ones were Oct 2018. However at $60 I'm not going to quibble about it.
Are you saying the wired Nest Protect Gen 2 aren't compliant?
They are in QLD - they meet AS 3876:2014, are interconnected and have a life of 10 years (like nearly all other alarms).
