It’s been this price for a while on Amazon

This game was a total letdown. I avoided spoilers, read reviews and reserved my judgement to the end. There was a lot of potential but this game has disappointed on so many levels. I probably won't be buying another Pokemon game until they lift their game.

The game is more of a early Beta than a fully fledged mainline game. Due in part to it's mediocre design in terms of fidelity and world design. Not only did Gamefreak strip away legacy content and mechanics from previous titles, but they did so without raising the baseline quality of existing and new content: Pokemon models, horizontal free moving camera with horrendous pop-in, carbon copy animations from a system with less than a fifth of the horsepower and just plain unacceptable framerates during online freeroam.

For a more comprehensive statement look here

I might consider buying this game on clearance… But ~$60 is far too much.

Once it's 40% off, then I'll get it. Only include 40% Pokemon? Then I'll only pay 40% of what it's worth

On the otherhand, I love this game. Bought a switch just to play it and didn't let me down. There definitely needs to be more post game content but the main story took 20+ hours to complete which I didn't think was too bad, and the difficulty seemed to be a bit higher than previous gens. Maybe that's just me though.

Been busy during final weeks before Xmas, when I go home and wind down, I just turn on this game and play through without needing to think too much, lots of stupid fun. After I finished the story, I started to raid and fill up my pokedex. Eh, I got my money's worth.

It's not GOTY material, but definitely entertaining if you want hours of simple entertainment.

You will definitely be disappointed if you have been anticipating this and expecting it to be a system seller like BOTW though.

My 2c for what ever it is worth. I hear everyones valid criticisms loud and clear. I still managed to get my $60 out of it however. But since I have finished the main story the pull of the game went away. I did take my time in the story though.

  • Thanks OP! I was about to purchase from Harvey

Not much of a price drop

I'll just wait for this game to be a $10 lightening sale.

Maybe in 3 years time and even then I'll probably blink and miss out =)

    • More like 10 years.. zelda botw or mario cart have been out about 3 years now. The price has not gone down lower than $45.

      • Yeah, but BotW and Mario Kart are significantly superior games and ones I still find myself replaying again and again. This is half a Pokemon game.

  • Is this any good for kids

    • +1

      Yes.

This is intended for kids and adults.

FYI I bought Pokemon Shield a few days ago on eBay for $55.95. It was $75.95 from city_of_games and then i stacked it with the $20 voucher you get from signing up to ebay plus.

    • Yeah I had similar deal, managed to grab daemon x machina on $39.90. Although it seems targeted deal combined with City of game Christmas deal, not gonna happen very often. The seller is trustworthy imo

  • Can someone explain me the differences between those 3 Pokemon games on switch? I there is Sword, shield and let's go or something like that. I am lost and my 6 year old would like one of these for christmas.

I used to be a gamer but this whole Pokemon stuff just confuses me.

    • Sword and Shield are the latest mainline games. Let's Go Pikachu and Eevee are remakes of the original games with more of a streamlined and casual feel especially with the motion controls during battles. If you are going to get a game for a 6 year old then I would recommend the Let's Go games.

      • Perfect, thanks for your advice. I shall buyu let's go then. Any difference between the two let's go versions?

    • Honestly, the latest games (Sword and Shield) are fine for a 6 year old (their simplicity is a major criticism of the games from series veterans). Don't be the uncool parent that buys a NES once the SNES comes out.

As for the differences (for either Evee/Pikachu or Sword/Shield). The differences are minor and you won't notice (a small portion of the 100's of pokemon are exclusive to each version which you can readily trade with owners of the other games) i.e it doesn't matter. Does your kid like Pikachu or Eevee? Red Swords or Blue Shields?

  • I bought Shield at release and the game is enjoyable. Yeah it has a few issues but its still a fun game especially if you're buying it for kids.
I just got a copy of Sword so I can experience the alternate gyms not in Shield (for example the Fighting Gym instead of the ones in Shield) and other misc changes / exclusive mons.

If anyone reading this has kids and you want to make their Christmas, The Good Guys has a deal very soon on a Switch Lite Console https://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/505561 ($224, lowest on record) and Amazon is likely to match it. Buy your kid a Switch Lite and a Pokemon game and they will have a very nice holidays.

Kids don't really need a regular Switch. The Lite is perfect for a kid.
