Recommendation for Budget PC Case - Bang for Buck

I'm building a Ryzen 3600 PC and I'm looking for recommendations on the best bang for buck mid tower case that can accommodate:
- ATX mobo x570
- 5.25" Old School DVD writer
- GPU longer than mini (unlike my current case)

LED is not important to me. Obviously case looks are quite subjective, not too worried on looks as I don't plan to display the case prominently.

Thanks

    What's that?

    J/K

    Something like this?

How many hard drives/SSDs does it need to fit?

If you have heaps of drives then something like this would be better:

    • ATX mobo

      • Oops, ignore the top suggestion then haha.

Do yourself a favour and just get an external DVD drive.

Using USB instead of SATA is not doing anyone a favour given USB's reliability issue. Also presumably costs more.

      • People don't buy external writers for the performance.

        • The DVD writer is a write off - so old it's IDE/PATA

  • Fractal Focus G

I recently built something for a family member, and they were adamant they needed the internal DVD drive. I gave up trying to talk them out of it, and after trying to find a simple case that suited it, I ended up with an Antec P7 Silent. Seemed OK for the price (About $80 from memory)

Checks calendar. Pheww. It's not 2007.

    • It turns out that drive is older than 2007…

Absolutely 'Bang for Buck' and meets all your criteria.

    • Lol. Labour too high for that case.

  • Rotanium TG302 Mid-tower Case (Tempered glass side panel/4x RGB fans included/ PSU Cover/half decent airflow and build quality for the price From MSY ($69) https://www.msy.com.au/rotanium-temper-tg302-rgb-black-4x-rg…

    • Hmm do you have one? I like the fans being included.

      • Yes I've built in the tg302 and tg303. Great bang for the buck cases

        • Tg302 only supports 2 HDD. Anyway to hack in another couple of HDD? What's the case fan noise like?

          • @Punkboy: case fan noise is good. They are audible if you have the case is on the desk next to you but the noise is not distracting. You will actually hear the cpu/gpu fans way more. I would say you can squeeze another hdd in the hdd bays and there would be room for a fourth under the psu shroud

    • Have you ever had any problems with the fan controller? Was it an easy set up? A quick google says a few people have had issues with fan speed control or the rgb

  • Another dinosaur requirement is my preference for 5 x 3.5" drives and 1 x 2.5". May be able to get away with 4 x 3.5".

  • I had the same requirements and ended up with a Corsair Carbide 100R. It made for an easy build with pretty decent cable management options.

  • Old secondhand lian li… usually they are all aluminium + have pull drive cages etc. Seen good ones for $50 + one in Brisbane for $30. A new entry level case with rgb front lights is the Lancool II and it's $139, or around $120 with the right ebay coupon.

It turns out I need to dispense with the 5.25" DVD drive. It's soooo old that it has a IDE/PATA interface which probably hasn't been on mobos for 5 years+.

    • DVD drives are cheap man, just replace it wtih SATA if you need it.
I have this one (had a Cougar which was sh*te). Much happier with this, but the front intake isn't great:

But they have now released this one. Better intake and tempered glass. For the same price! I might get this myself.

    • Buy a external "blu-ray" one of wish for $15 then complain that it's not actually blu-ray and get your money back. That's what I did. Thing works great for DVD's.

But hey sometimes they'll "require" to ship it back to complete the refund.

        • They are using false advertising to scam people, just scamming the scammers lol.

  • Most should fit that just sort by price low->high and check dimensions. $50 around that for barebones

  • cardboard box is probably your cheapest option
