Christmas Party, Recomend Me 2-3 Wine Bottles for $100

Hi fellow Ozbargainers,

I'm going to a friends Christmas party on Christmas day, and would like to bring 2 or 3 nice bottles of wine to be enjoyed by everyone at the party.
Now I personally really don't know much about wine, so I'm hoping that my fellow Ozbargainers will be able to suggest me some nice good value bottles of wine.
The places Id be buying the wine from is BoozBud or Dans.

Update:
OK this is very late, I've been sooo busy, I'm so drained.
I just wanted to thank everyone for all your helpful wine recommendations and advice :)
I ended up getting Pepperjack that was recommended by Pierrefranklin, ashinmelb and my boss, Rabbit Ranch Central Otago Pinot Noir a wine from the Central Otago that was recommended by freefall101, and a Nepenthe Sauvignon Blanc recommended to me by my boss. They were all bought from Dans.
The Christmas party/gathering went well and the wine was appreciated and enjoyed.
Once again thank you everyone :)

Cheers, Wystri Warrik.

Are they to be enjoyed at the party or to be a gift?

If they are to be enjoyed at the party find out their menu and go from there , if they are a gift to be consumed by them find out what they enjoy and go from there.

    • HI qwerty, yes they are to be enjoyed at the party. I'll update the post and thanks for the reply :)

Fruity lexia is always my go to. Good value for money and a crowd pleaser.

    • Hi Pierrefranklin, I need something a little more expensive and fancy, that's something I'd buy if I was hosting a party at my place.
Actually I might try that out myself, I've just added that to my shopping list for the next time I'm at Dans. Thanks for the recommendation :).

Dont conform to the wine snobs. These grapes have been turned ftom grape juice to wine. A miracle. Decant the wine before hand and people wont know the difference.

        You are on ozbargain remember.

If you feel the social pressure to conform, suggest pepperjack.

        • Hi Pierrefranklin,

Haven't forgotten comrade. Was born an OzBargainer and I'll die and OzBargainer!

Thanks for the recomendation of Pepperjack, I ended up getting it! :)

Does fruity Lexia even come in a bottle? I previously thought there was only 1 kind of person that drank it. Now it looks like there's 2. Ozbargainers and uni students.

Don't tell anyone the cost but Aldi's $7 wines are killing it https://www.perthnow.com.au/lifestyle/drink/7-aldi-wine-wins…

    • Wish Aldi SA sold alcohol :'(. If they did they'd probably become my no.1 liqueur store!

Just get 2 white 2 heavy red e.g. shiraz and 2 light red e.g. pinot.

Heavily chill the white and you can serve anything.

Buy some cheap Aldi wine as Aoeueoa above says.

Strip the labels off and tell everyone you found this great wine merchant who sold you these cleanskins for $30 a bottle, that came from a limited vintage normally $70 a bottle

they will probably see thru it, but should congratulate you on your balls.

    Great conversation starter

    • LOL if Aldi SA sold liqueur I'd so want to do this. Ebay would also be a great help for pulling this of all!

Do you know if the host and guests are seasoned drinkers? I played a small prank many years ago by pouring red label into a blue label bottle, taking it to a party and hearing all my drunk mates telling me how tasty ‘blue label’ whisky was, when they were criticising red label mixed with coke earlier in the night.

The Dan's near me usually has a few staff recommendation/reviews which I've found useful when looking for ideas.

    • I didn't know Dans had wine experts, I thought they just had general knowledge.
Thanks Xyzzy, I'll definitely be remembering that and popping by Dans in Jan-Feb! :)

I always fallback to either pepperjack or Taylor's.

Taylor's is always a good one mate.

Thanks ashinmelb for the recommendation. I ended up getting a Pepperjack! :)

Depends on food and how drunk everyone will be. If you're the only one to bring wine and it goes with dinner, good to go classy. Otherwise doesn't matter.

    Few suggestions though:

Bests Great Western Shiraz, on sale at Dan's at the moment for $22. The 2017 is a little disappointing but it still killed at a family bbq a couple of weeks ago with a family of wine drinkers.

Pewsey Vale Contours or Helm Classic riesling, usually $30-40

Mud House Claim 431, about $30. Great example of a central otago pinot at a good price.

Burn Cottage Moonlight Race - This is about $60 and worth every penny. Basically a bunch of people recognised Central Otago as one of the best pinot regions and put together an amazing wine that's a bargain. Ted Lemon consults on it, you'll rarely see any of his Californian wines for less than $200 a bottle. If you buy this, don't buy the above one, puts it to shame.

Easy bet though - go to Dan's, find the wine guy and ask for a good central otago pinot and a good riesling that's not too minerally. Riesling is great because you can get a really good one for $30 or step up to an amazing grosset for $60. Central Otago pinot is always very good because of the region and fairly easy to get in Australia these days and any wine snobs will respect you.

    • Thanks for taking the time to write a detailed and helpful reply freefall101 :).
I ended up getting a Central Otago Pinot Noir, Rabbit Ranch Central Otago Pinot Noir!
I've popped Mud House Claim 431 and Burn Cottage Moonlight Race to my "To try wine list", and I'll be trying out more Central Otago wines :).
