      I got one for $30 from an elderly man in gumtree this week. When I asked him why he was selling it so cheap he seemed suprised; must have thought he was selling a normal Chromecast.

    Noting JV's actual positive input (with regards to 2nd hand/as new items), all things being equal, what are peoples thoughts on these as a whole?

    I'm looking for something that will hookup to my projector/receiver to allow it to operate at full 4k with the most options available, FTA being the least of my concerns. Is there anything else really available? I hear the main complaints with the CC Ultra is that it requires the use of your phone whereas I think I'd prefer something standalone.

    NB: Not interested in ANY Apple products, just in case anybody felt like recommending them.

      The Vodafone tv $72 might suit you or the Nvidia shield if you are willing to spend almost ~$200. Both are stand alone, come with remote and have 4k chromecast built in.

        That seems to be the direction I've been heading. I haven't properly looked into the Voda TV but I have considered the Shield so good to know I'm on the right track.

        Thanks for the input. Any personal experience with either?

          VodaTV has been great for me. Not as good as a shield, but significantly cheaper. Replaced my ageing WDTV.
          The built-in apps work fine and so does casting (tested it with Amazon Prime Video last night), added Kodi, and will add a bunch more over the Xmas break.
