Ok - this is an updated deal from http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/50240 (thanks to fma007)

Use your Paypal account to get a $30 discount code (one code per account)
https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/topcustomers/offers.asp

And Kogan is offering Free Delivery till midnight tonight (10th August, 2011)

The best deal I found is the Kogan HD Digital Set-top Box with PVR only $9!
http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/hd-digital-set-top-box-pvr/

There are other products too that you might find handy - just check: http://www.kogan.com.au/shop/?utm_source=MailingList&utm_med…

N.B. Free Shipping offer and Paypal Coupon excludes products with a LivePrice and Free Shipping is not valid for remote or rural delivery areas

Enjoy!

UPDATE The PayPal coupon might not work for the HD Set-top box, as Kogan changed this to an "On Sale" item…check below comments for details. But I guess other products that don't fall under "On Sale" or "LIVEPRICE" will still qualify.

UPDATE 2 Deal is now expired as Kogan has changed all of their products to either "On Sale" or "Live Price". Thanks for all your supports.

UPDATE 3 As per Kogan's Twitter site http://twitter.com/#!/Kogan - Kogan will honour all successfull transactions (Thanks texanboy)

  • Well.. at least they're honouring the ones that have bought it.

Congrats to all who got in on time! i just missed out.

  • damn, stupid lectures, I was about to buy it but needed to goto a lecture. They changed it while I was gone :(

    • +3

it pays to skip lectures :P

  • "Kogan said it will honour the 500-odd orders received for the device"

    500 LOL!

    • +2

500 orders!!! Power of OZB LOL

      But only 113 + votes!!

      P.S. Ruslan owes me a cuppa :D

    • -1

If that makes you famous I'm a superstar!

  • Is it just me or has the "On Sale" tag just disappeared? Not interested in trying again as I got one earlier but looks like something has changed.

    • +1

yeah but the code still does not work :(

    • -1

It is still there for me

      • refreshed the page again and it's back

        • +1

I just tried and it won't take $30 off.

"technical glitch or not" - it's a bad idea to change all the cheaper items as "Sales or live price"

i never would have bought a Kogan product, and initially disregarded my paypal email in relation to this offer, but with this promo, i wouldn't have mind to try their products, but its a bit disappointing when they've been ozbargained and subsequently changed all cheap products so the code can't be applied.

They should have learned from the Staples offer to impose a minimum amount before the coupon could be applied

    • So the On Sale tag is gone now - I guess it's no longer "on sale" - but free shipping still applies

I'm confused, not that it is not "on sale" shouldn't the Paypal promotion apply? Nothing in the T&C about Free shipping, just on sale and live price

  • +2

If you were paranoid enough to take a screenshot of the product with the coupon code applied before looking at other products, and email it to [email protected] and they will(maybe) honour it.
I'd upload my screenshot, but it shows my coupon code, so it wouldn't work ;D

"If you would like to email that screenshot to [email protected], this will be passed on to management for consideration"
"If you send the email through, I am sure management will be able to offer a suitable agreement, considering the circumstances"

I can upload a screenshot of the LiveChat conversation if needed for proof.

    • +5

You COULD upload your screenshot with your coupon code whited out, so we can fill ours in. Just saying.

  • Awesome just created an account to say thanks for this - ignore most of the RSS feed but happened to jump on this one straight away. From the screen shots of the manual looks like the inside of the 'MTV' brand SD version I purchased from Coles a while ago…

  • +4

Rather interestingly, they have merely changed the "ON SALE" text on the top right of each product to now read 'Free Shipping' - each item now has Free Shipping mentioned twice :)

Maybe they WERE a little worried about the ACCC implications of putting an "On Sale" tag on EVERY product even though the price hadn't changed!!!

Still doesn't look like a 'loophole' to me - it looks like someone in marketing was very careless (or clueless).

    • +2

shouldn't the voucher apply now then? T&C stated not valid for "on sale" and "live price" items - nothing about free shipping…

      • +2

I agree! Pretty BS they're basically forgetting about the $30 voucher altogether…… not cool Kogan!

        • Yup, Kogan's gone into damage control trying to put a positive spin on being caught out with some pretty shifty tactics…focusing on how many they are going to honour in the press versus the legality of the way they weaseled out is pretty superficial IMHO, most people will see straight through it!

As texanboy said, this was very much a case of marketing that was not very well thought out at all! ;)

  • Is the voucher any good at all? I cant get it to work on any product…..

  • The item now doesn't seem to be marked as "On Sale" or "LivePrice" now does it? So does that mean we can buy it again?

    • It would appear not - whatever 'flag' is invoked by the "On Sale" notation is now being flagged and invoked by the altered "Free Shipping" note. They have effectively decided not to honour the $30 voucher on Free Shipping day. Pity someone didn't think this through and properly exclude it in the T&C's.

Drats! You know what happens when you have a job and don't check ozbargain every hour? you miss out on deals like this! great find bappy and well done to those who scored deal. While dodgy that Kogan won't allow further combining of promotions, from what I have read, they did make a genuine mistake, and unlike many ozbargainised mistakes of the recent past, they actually said they will honour it for those that got it. For that reason, my neg had been withheld.

  • This is Crazy… lol

  • +8

I happened to check Ozbargain around 9am today while no one replies(fresh thread)! :D
ordered 1 immediately and all should have gone through!

    thanks Bappy!!

to the people who voted Negative, you guys simply missed out,
should have given Positive vote to Bappy……

    • +4

to the people who voted Negative, you guys simply missed out,
should have given Positive vote to Bappy

      Agreed! :)

    • +1

I voted negative because Kogan is screwing around with their web site and changing their terms, trying to use semantics to get around honouring the Paypal voucher. This item is NOT on sale, is NOT a live price item, and as such should be eligible for for the discount

I did not neg because I missed out - don't make assumptions about me.

Reckon I dodged a bullet in the end cause it's one less piece of cheap crap cluttering up the house.

BTW - thanks Bappy - nice deal while it lasted

      • +1

I negged because I only got one.

Congrats to Bappy. excellent post. if there was a top 10 posts of the month it would be #1.
If there was a top 10 of the year then it would be there. with the staples deal. hmm there's an idea mods. top 10 for the month/ year as voted by oz bargain community.
the prize? how about a $9 Kogan HD settop box with PVR?

    • -2

I disagree, if they had sold out, the deal wouldn't of gotten negged like it did. Changing the deal after you get hammered is why the deal got negged. Great post though

    • +6

That is the biggest load of crap i have ever heard.Online glitch my arse.A $30 gift voucher is what it is called on Paypals site -

      https://www.paypal-australia.com.au/topcustomers/offers.asp

No mention of a loyalty voucher whatever that means.

      • +7

I agree - not really a glitch is it when all you're doing is refusing to honour a Paypal voucher.

        • Yeah I don't really get it now…they still have it advertised as free shipping, and it is not on sale or a live price, yet the Paypal voucher does not apply…

Why not just make it $38, and call it a sale (albeit a 2.5% reduction!)?

  • -2

    bullcrap!

  • hmmm….. as the saying goes….. any publicity is good publicity…..

  • as the coupon is still valid Kogan ought to honour it.

  • +1

haha this wasnt a bug.. just a stuff up on their behalf!

    • I'm not convinced it was a stuff up……. It's got lots of people talking about it… various websites doing articles about it…… This post has 3 pages so far….. I reckon it's been a very good strategy :)

Advertising costs lots…… probably lots more than a few, (largely obsolete), products that were cluttering up a warehouse somewhere…..

      • +3

I wouldn't consider it a particularly good advertising strategy. Tipping one's hand with regard to company attitudes toward deceptive behaviour isn't much of a poker face IMHO.

Sure, Kogan got nine bucks off me, but it will probably be the only money they ever will! ;)

        • possibly nine bucks more than they ever would have had otherwise :)

and Kogan products in the hands of perhaps it's biggest sceptics…..

        • $9 less the shipping cost.

        • $9 less the shipping cost.

  • +2

so kogan's compliant is shoppers are able to use free shipping and $30 off at the same time. Free shipping ends today but the coupon will still be valid so does that mean we can use it tomorrow and just pay shipping on top of the $9?

If not then you have nothing to stand on Kogan!!!

    • Yep. Just ordered one today - total with shipping was around $25. Still not as good as $9 obviously, but pretty good price regardless.

  • Thanks OP for posting it
I'm sure many Ozb'ers are lucky!

    • Cheers issh - I was looking for your comments thinking my good friend from Brisbane might have missed the deal…

  • +1

    Dodgy Kogan!

    • Isn't that a tautology? :p

  • +4

zdnet and all these sites making this news must have nothing else better to do.. How was this a glitch you fools.

Im sure the kogan monkeys would of seen the orders coming in anything after 30+ instant orders with in a few minutes would ring some bells and triggered them to fix it.

Now marking this as a sale item so it wont work with the coupon is just dodgy business. A sale item which still has the same price even before it was on sale.

  • i recon there will be new promotions until the end of Aug….

  • Damn can't believe I missed it…

  • Lets hope the precedent they have set in honoring mistakes carries forward onto the order i just placed :)

    • +1

so you willing to pay $39 for it?

  • +1

missed out after i saw this on my mob in a lecture :(
did anyone get 1 on impulse and doesn't really want it? i'd happily purchase it off you if possible!
the one that came with our tv fried so need a replacement…
    cheers

  • Doesn't work on the cyclonic vacuum either. I was willing to pay Godfreys cheapie money for one of those ($49)… Kogan's website recognises the paypal code, but just doesn't apply the discount. I asked their live chat about this and got a response confirming that their "free shipping" promo counts as "on sale", therefore $30 voucher does not apply.

  • it seems all product got free shipping thats mean you can't use the paypal code today until the freeshipping promotion gone.

  • +1

I recieved the paypal voucher code from paypal (I can still see the voucher code in my paypal account). the customer support guy from kogan told me to forward my details about my paypal voucher so he will manually process the order. when I did, he replied that I am not a member of paypal top buyers program hence the code is not valid for me.

I called paypal and they confirm my code but said kogan should have a list to confirm it themselves… Is it all excuses?

    • by the way, there was no mention of free shipping counting as a sale.

      • +1

kogan is just trying to not honour the deal. don't worry, you are not the only one.

a few of us have already contacted the ACCC regarding this issue.

    • just to update, kogan emailed that paypal code was valid. they send me a manual checkout link today (for $9). paid with paypal and now waiting to try out the PVR. thanks kogan.

  • as of 18 minutes ago the free shipping expired. it's $16.90 for shipping now and I am happy to pay that provided the code works (bringing the STB to $25.90) but the code is still not working. What gives? Can't even give kogan the benefit of the doubt anymore

    edit: working now

    • I still wouldn't touch this deal til I get a reply from the ACCC.

Worst case scenario, you still have til the end of August for that coupon code.

  • The websites down atm. "Service Temporarily Unavailable

The server is temporarily unable to service your request due to maintenance downtime or capacity problems. Please try again later."

  • Codes seem to be working again. It comes up with shipping to cost me $25 in total.

  • -1

yeah they are full of sh1t they made such a big deal over $16 postage and with their postage deals probably only costs $5-6 to post set top box
    False advertising i say

  • Is this actually a good set top box, i've been wanting one for a while and $25 sounds pretty good ?

  • Anyone know the shipping fee before this, seems shipping become a killer

  • The scary thing is…my SD box is po'ing me off and with the PVR facility I'm actually likely to buy this even after the deal is over. Of course, being a pensioner I could of really used it for $9…though I might get a free one from the government in 2014…

  • +2

I don't understand why Kogan is trying to dodge the $30 cashback from paypal. Is the $30 money coming from paypal or from Kogan ? I would have thought that Kogan agreed to the $30 cashback as a promotion. Why are they now not honouring the $30 cashback just because people are buying products that have low prices (therefore low profit margins) with their cashbacks ? I sent a letter of complaint to Kogan and they said they will honour it but will have to change the Free Shipping to $16.95 shipping. I was trying to buy the $39 set top box. I think I will just buy from Dick Smith. Same price and no hassles if I need to return it.

    • Yeah same - why are they not honouring the Paypal deal now?

  • Just bought it and applied the $30 paypal credit. However postage is $16.90.
    Still OK deal.

  • Shipping PER hdmi cable is $5.70….rightio

  • Is it worth for $25 ???
    Any review for Kogan?

  • +5

Just received my set top box ordered yesterday for $9. Awesome deal.

    • Thats fast delivery - congrats
      Hopefully I will receive mine…

      • Super fast! I got an email this evening stating mine is on the way! :)

  • thinking of trying another products
the new PayPal code doesn't work for me(it doesn't take $30 off)

  • can the $30 code be puchased for anything any site? i have the code, seems u can!

  • thanks Bappy I got 2 yesterday- one I paid by cc- then when I clicked the final stage it said service unavailable- I thought it might be coz I paid with cc & still got the discount. So I went back in & did another order thru paypal… and worked. Checked emails last night, have 2 different tax invoices with one STB on each. So now I gotta get rid of one… lol

    • *bought two yesterday- one refund, other who knows where.

  • OMG ….. just received a refund from Kogan for $9…..I guess I'm not getting my settop box after all :(

    • Hmm, I'd be challenging that portmac!?

    • That's not good - you should contact Kogan as they said they will honour the deal
Plus few people reported they have received the goods purchased…

    • So did I… must have spoke too soon…or they read my post and thought F U you're not getting 2. They are pure and simple arsholes

  • one thing i cant fault is the shipping, order yesterday and got it today, damn fast!

    http://www.smartcompany.com.au/information-technology/201108…

Well played Kogan. You have my respect and possibly my business at a later date.

    • neggers (people who neg) - I think this is sarcasm.

      • +1

pretty sure he was serious, he obviously didn't read the whole story playing out here.

        • yep..i was serious…
          seems like a bit of a kerfuffle…
          ill steer clear :P

  • Thanks just got a $9 Box…
Surprised that they had so many models of TV's thou…
Will do a bit more of a study of the site..

  • +1

My second order got cancelled as they said —- "multiple vouchers have been used to process these transactions while this voucher is for one-use and is valid for only one Pay Pal account". Not sure about this, I used my paypal account and my partners so 2 separate codes. I had to pay with credit card for second order though because I kept getting a bad gateway error when trying to pay with paypal for the second order.

    • exactly the same situation as me sparkyglo. my cc one SEEMS to have gone thru (yet to receive) but the paypal transaction has been refunded. 2 separate codes, two different tax invoices sent, they are scabbing out any way they can here, with not even a bloody explanation or a "sorry". Poor form Kogan.

  • delivery through Toll confirmed. now to wait.

  • Any cheap 1tb usb hard drives that would go well with this atm?

    • apparently Kogan have them with free shipping and $30 off paypal coupon……
