Thanks BA. FWIW I would be hesitant of signing up to them I still have recurring fits of rage thinking about EA when I was a customer of theirs.

    https://www.productreview.com.au/listings/energyaustralia

    • +6

Strongly agree, had them before, was paying my neighbour's bill for more than a year until we can prove it was wring. Even more so in money, denied refund only offer credit on future bill etc. PIA. Avoid!

    • +1

Not worth the savings when you read the horrors others been through. Thanks for the heads up

    • Same! Will never sign up with them however much they pay me.
A couple of years ago they kept ‘taking over’ my electricity and then sending me bills despite never signing up with them. They made me prove I was with someone else to remove the charges, twice!

    • To be fair, there aren't many energy providers with a star rating of above 2 on product review.

  • Thanks OP.
Pity I am still in the process of connecting my Solar system to the grid and could not switch retailer at the moment.

  • Need to compare unit price with others and discount, anyone if they have good offer?

    • +5

      Compare here https://www.energymadeeasy.gov.au

For me ReAmped was around $200 cheaper than next cheapest + look on Ozbargain for the referral code to get $50 on joining. (EA was around $400 per year more)

      • Exactly. Even taking into account EnergyAustralia's so called '28% pay on time discount' which the call centre people said was such a good deal that they didn't offer it anymore and couldn't beat it, other companies appeared to be hundreds of dollars per year cheaper.

If you're a new customer considering this bonus, I would advise you to get the bonus but definitely not lock yourself in so you can move onto another company with far better pricing ASAP

      • +1 for Reamped.

      • +1

That's a site for comparing expensive plans that you cannot compare with anything else or why are you using the site in the first place. Most consumers, like you, have no idea what they're buying according to the ACCC.

The site has been completely ineffective in lowering electricity prices unless you're going to take the absurd position that prices would be far higher if the site weren't operating.

The site is a con run by the regulator of the industry which is controlled by the businesses in the sector it's meant to be regulating.

Australian's are morons in other words, this is what they voted for. Aside from anything else, the economy has been "severely damaged" by electricity privatisation according to ACCC head Rodney Sims in 2016. Who is apparently a moron because he goes on to claim that he still believes in the theory that privatisation works in the same interview.

      • Curious to hear more about ReAmped. They are always cheapest in comparisons but have mixed reviews (as do pretty much all energy retailers)

        • The biggest problem I have is monthly billing instead of quarterly billing you get with agl or ea. Also AGL gives discount gift card for members.

      • Reamped don't provide quarterly billing otherwise I join them today.

  • Do it work if my gas is with them and I transfer electricity over?

    • You will be eligible for the electricity signup but not the gas as per the OP

    • +1

Yeah, you can't take it back for a refund, not sure why the wait!?!?

    • +9

99% of all Energy Australia transactions are approved to members within 60-95 days. 180 days is a 'may take' scenario for a very small minority, and is in the terms as contracted to us by Energy Australia. We either have the clause or we don't have EA advertised on site. There are many reasons for this, including fraud protection. Further, approvals are validated and processed by Energy Australia, not Cashrewards.

      • HI TA,
Appreciate your work in getting us deals.

Any deals for people with solar installed?
        Cheers

      • +2

Can confirm this, changeover to Energy Australia went through on 1st October, got the cashback this month.

      • I just got my $126 credit confirmed last week for a December(2018) signup from cashrewards, you need to contact them by yourself.

      • Why solar plan is excluded?

        • +1

'Cause solar means they can't make near as much money out of you, so you must be punished.

      • TA can I not mess around and get their retention rate and qualify for the electricity bonus ?
I don't think its on your launch page unfortunately .

    • +4

Disagree with the neg. Money is money, and 6 months is reasonable.

    • +7

Who cares how long it takes… if it's cheaper it's cheaper.

    • +3

Mine was approved in 60 days when this similar cashback was on :)

    • Cashback took around 2 months from the previous deal.

  • +3

Just a warning for all… If you have solar, you do not qualify for cashback as per their terms.

    • +4

Penalising those on Solar. Interesting strategy.

  • Any lock in contract? I'd only get cashback and switch again.

    • +1

Ah.. I wonder if energy providers are to be the new phone plans, switch every time there's a new deal? The new form of sim slutting?

      • Has been the case for the last 2 years. Disclaimer; this guy ports!

Almost every retailers offer is about $100 for 6 months (just search "energy" in cashrewards), take your pick.

      • Yep,I've been doing this last few years about every 12months-signup bonus with both then CR with Energy Aust.. 👍

  • +1

Cashback is not available on solar electricity plans.

Guess this mean any with Solar Feedback would be ineligible?

  • How long would I need to remain a customer to qualify?

I'm putting my house on the market in 6 weeks from now, let's say that's under a 6 week settlement, that's 3 months max from today.

    • +1

The last deal was posted on th 31st August, changeover happened on the 1st October. Got the cashback on the 6th December. So 3 months and 6 days from the day I ordered it.

    • Best wishes going through the changes / disruption👍

      • Still yet to get a bill from them but I've already requested a transfer to Origin Energy on a $70 cashback deal through Cash Rewards

  • +1

In my area, many are raising their prices come Jan 1 and it's hard to compare these rates until they are implemented. I'm with globird which WAS cheap but now are much more expensive. Current rates indicate elysian and kogan to be the cheapest, then loads of others around $20 a year more…

    • Hey I got the 17.7% globird increase too and you right need to wait a month or so until you can do a proper comparison with Victoria Energy Compare website

  • Impossible to get if you have solar, as you need to call them. Also energy Australia will deny working with Cashrewards so you won’t get anywhere with customer care to claim.

      Show them the landing page…

      • Hey tightarse - does this now also include cashback for Energy Australia plans with solar?
I switched over through Cash Rewards last year and didn't get my cashback as I have solar (I also queried it with Cash Rewards at the time and they said solar plans were ineligible). Cheers.

        • +1

          Unfortunately not Alister, sorry:

Cashback is not available on solar electricity plans.

    • I would never expect their call centre staff to know anything about rebate/affiliate systems. It is a little naive to think so! 👌

On that note my EA (No contract) cashback tracked in Sept and notice that it was approved in November sometime.

Free is free. All energy retailers are the same in SA. So my decisions are based on Cashback rate followed by favourable terms with the retailer. (No contract etc)

  • +1

If I've had EA before and received a cashback amount before, however now with another retailer and I switch back, am I eligible TA?

  • Isn't there any fees to change energy providers? Like changing from AGL to Energy Australia and back.

  • +2

Not bad, but a quick comparison on Energy Compare Vic shows them at about $130 per year more for electricity anyway, not worth switching.

  • What is considered as "New Sign ups"
We were with EA before. Now redenergy

    • The real question is why are you even contemplating going back to EA.

      • +2

Not everyone has a negative experience.

Was with Origin before I switched to EA due to a better deal.

Know a few other people who are with EA and they too don't have any issues.

I have my own spreadsheet that I use for comparing plans.

  • -1

I find ENergy Australia and AGL are best utility retailers. Pricewise not cheapest but easy to communicate with. Most of our smart accountants and analysts are with EA.

    • Most of our smart accountants and analysts are with EA .

      Smart ?

I though it was common knowledge to go to a govt comparison site to be smart :)

  • -1

Means we have to forfeit my AGL rewards? is worth?

    • Many energy provider has reward program this days, so don't worry about it.even suncorp bank provides reward for members.

      • the main 2 ones i get are the Colesworth 5% but Sun bank is 4% for those

  • For me it seems its worth switching as rates are better than AGL I am paying. I just dont if there are any cost associated with changing over provider.

    • I wonder if agl retention team (do they have?) will give you better rates

      • They normally do

        • -1

I'm just thinking of how to approach them.
One thing I setnforget was that I like that we can flybuys linked to bill payments too

Also bit annoying having to actively compare wish they would just auto set to lower rate when available. Loyalty sucks nowadays but we're learning to Compare at least once a year, or however long the contract ends

          • @capslock janitor: Basically you go to leave by signing up with another provider and then the retention team tries to call you and offer you a better deal and it’s usually 10%

  • Thanks OP, changed to EA from AGL…now waiting for tracking to be recorded.
