Water in Roof during Roof Rack Install

I started installing some Rhino Racks last weekend but only got up to drilling the holes after cutting out the rubber tracks. I put on the anti-rust and touch up paint. Time escaped me and left it there.

The missus used the car today and it got bird poo on it. I have told her in the past that it's a good idea to clean it off quickly so it doesn't etch the paint. Without knowing about my roof rack job, she took it to the self-serve car wash and gave it a spray all over.

How bad is it to have water enter the holes? Best method to dry it? I shoved my hand up the side of the ceiling liner and there is definitely water in there.

Windows open, leave it in the sun on a hot day.

Yes, obvious solution now you mention it.

Put a hair dryer through the holes for a bit to dry it out.

    drilling the holes

Why are you drilling into the roof? The cross bars are meant to be affixed to the rails.

    Use rice

And then we would need to figure out how are we getting rice from between the roof and the liner. It is an unfortunate incident, but hopefully hot summer days might work.

      • and how the asians can get in

        • Ooohhh. Someone went there.

I was thinking you’d need to send in a cat afterwards to get the mice.

          • @Euphemistic: They threw in the Asians to catch the cat, they threw in the cat to catch the mouse, they threw in the mouse to collect the rice, they threw in the rice to catch the water. I don't know why they threw in the rye, perhaps it'll dry…

        • Then you'll need to figure out how to get the Asians out.
