Nikon D5100 Twin VR Kit for $1300 @ JB Hi-Fi Including 2yr Extended Warranty [Receipt Included]

90

Hi guys,

This is my first ozbargain submission on here.
Just wanted to share a deal I purchased today from JB Hi Fi.

The Nikon D5100 with twin lens kit is advertised for $1286 on their website and in stores.

So I went in today expecting to ask them for a better deal and failing since they're usually reluctant to do further discounts on sale products, and then paying around $1286 for just the DSLR. But the guy ended up giving me a pretty good deal anyway.

For an extra $14 (total of $1300), I got:
- Nikon D5100 DSLR twin lens kit
- 2yr extended warranty
- Yellowstone SLR camera case (Large)
(I have a memory card, so didn't buy one from them)

They didn't have any in stock, but will be transferring one from another store and expecting it to arrive in a couple of days. Can't wait to get it! =D

Well that was a nice way to end the weekend =)

Here's a copy of the receipt if anyone's interested.

ummmmm i do not think $1286 from jb is sale price(jb always have unrealistic ticketed price on most products they are selling).Harvey Norman is selling this for $1288 and that before bargaining with cash in your hands.the good guys also selling this for $1289.so the same price everywhere.not the bargain unless at least 20% off from competitor prices.

Yeah, I've been shopping around for this camera since it was released in Australia. It's usually retailed around $1500+ and I know that a lot of places are doing specials on it at the moment.
Last time I tried HN when they had a 20% sale on electronics, but they best deal I got was around $1450 with extended warranty. So I think with all the sales going around, this is probably the best one so far.

    • wouldnt that be a grey import?

      • My bad, yes they are grey import according to users on whirlpool.

    • hmm is it Australia stock or grey import though? cos citiwide sells them for a lot cheaper

    • It says 12 Month Australian Warranty…

Not sure whether that's 3rd party or Manufacturers warranty though hmm…

      • I think unless they're an authorised Nikon dealer, warranty won't be with Nikon.

      • Non Nikon warranty. Warranty provided by 3rd party company.

Any point comparing grey market prices with Aussie stock?

        well because it's cheaper :/

But if Techriffic 'is' selling aussie stock then obviously it's a better bargain there then at JB.

Lol a little off topic but just thought I'd share … I managed to get the d5000 twin lens kit when it was first released for $888 at David jones because the salesman made a mistake on price match …to this day I have never seen Aussie stock d5000 twin lense kits go for $888.. It is still a bargain 2 years later lol.. Sometimes I think u just gotta be lucky to find a good bargain

    • Dont think mistake can be called bargain !!

Got the D7000 for $1500 with 4yr warranty + filter (didn't need cards/bag) at JB's special sale a couple of weeks ago. Another ozbug got a better deal, so any of these big franchises that advertise negotiation should be able to equal this.

D7000 is, overall, the best midframe dslr currently available; the 7D being it's only serious rival. The non-basic Nikons also work with all F-mount lenses made since the 1950s (probably a few exceptions). This, along with the slightly better midframe sensors, is why I chose Nikon over Canon.

If you're considering the D5100 in this price range save up a bit more and negotiate for the D7000.
