  • Bought the gold edition a couple days ago. Been fun so far.

Noticed yesterday that this was $9 new on console at EB Games, too.

I purchased a PC DVD-ROM copy from EB Games and it came with a bonus free Steam code for South Park: The Stick of Truth. This is not mentioned on EB's web page but it was printed on the actual box cover. I had to return the Truth Stick DVD-ROM for store credit. Christmas sale $9 in-Store Only.

  • Amazon also selling the XB1 version for $9.

Isn’t this crippled with DRM? When will they learn

      When people stop pirating?

      • +1

For the downvoters. Yes, Denuvo affects your game performance which sucks. It punishes legitimate customers because of pirates. Developers use it to postpone their game being cracked for as long as possible. Most game sales happen near release so an uncracked game means more potential sales. Unfortunately the more games get cracked the more complex and resource heavy Denuvo will get meaning the more it will affect legally obtained copies.

Ideally they should just remove it after the game has been cracked.

Tl;dr. If people pirate than they will continue to be more and more drm.

        • Never heard of GOG?

          • @askbargain: Yes, the platform that was conceived because Poland was completely riddled with piracy. GOG is using the marketing strategy of drm-free to fight piracy. Others are just stacking on more drm on top of each other.

            The question:

Isn’t this crippled with DRM? When will they learn.

            My answer:

            When people stop pirating?

            • -1

@SlappersOnly: So your answer isn't complete. GOG's model works.

              • @askbargain: It works on some games and even then there are still tons of GOG pirated games floating around internet. There’s no way of proving that if all games become DRM-free than piracy stops. With all the internet hate on big name AAA publishers it’s anyone’s guess what would happen if they just suddenly all went DRM-free.

Edit: I guess my complete answer would be:

When people stop pirating and developers start removing Denuvo after its already been cracked. A lot of them keep it because they have future dlc planned or because they’re just lazy I guess.

                • @SlappersOnly:

even then there are still tons of GOG pirated games floating around internet

Doesn't matter. What GOG shows is that even without DRM, there will still be sales. DRM doesn't mean sales.

There’s no way of proving that if all games become DRM-free than piracy stops

Piracy is always going to be a thing no matter what. Adding DRM is a waste of time. If someone is going to buy it, they are going to buy it. Same if that person is going to pirate it.

Denuvo DRM have had zero-days and are usually cracked in days.

Denuvo will get meaning the more it will affect legally obtained copies.

In the end, they will just hurt their own real customers.+

                  Edit: https://crackwatch.com/game/south-park-the-fractured-but-who…

It was cracked after 1 day.

                  • @askbargain: South Park is a bad example of drm implementation. They just left it with Denuvo installed. Same with watch dog 2 and probably a bunch of other Ubisoft games.

Doesn’t mean that drm-free is the answer to all solutions. I could also say that the creation of steam and their drm helped teach russia how to actually purchase software legally.

                    • @SlappersOnly: And show me how Denuvo DRM has helped?

                      • @askbargain: I just did. Basically taught russia how to press the purchase button on games. Drm-free is also good. As I said, it’s not a one size fits all situation.

                        • -1

                          @SlappersOnly: Denuvo or Steam DRM?

                          • @askbargain: I was talking about DRM in general. As for Denuvo it’s a bit of a catch 22 situation though isn’t it? You don’t know if it helped unless you release without it. Publishers etc. must think it’s worth it if they are paying +$100,000 to have it.

As for examples. Shadow of War was basically instantly cracked but they kept using Denuvo and their DLCs remained uncracked for a long time and hopefully cause people who previously cracked the game to buy it and the dlc legitimately.

                • @SlappersOnly: As you mentioned, Poland was riddled with piracy, so CD Projekt decided to not punish customers for their purchases but decided to give pirates a reason to go legitimate, which carried on into their creation of GoG.com. Crazy thinking right, not to punish the legitimate? Piracy isn't going anywhere, but publishers can make better decisions. Developers / publishers could patch their games to remove the DRM soon after the game has been cracked, giving them the opportunity to make those better sales at the start and then later offer the less intrusive experience.

As for whether DRM helps, if a game is available on GoG it is available near instantly available on Torrent sites. GoG successfully sells those games, so they don't need DRM but Steam often sells those same games, despite being on Torrent sites. People want the benefits of Steam and are prepared to pay for that. Steam offers many potential pirates a reason to stay legitimate, even though Steam utilises DRM. DRM in itself isn't a problem, but many are damaging to performance or act like Rootkits.

    Down from $90? Crazy.

Finished this one on PS4 last year and loved it. So much fun if you're a fan of the show. It's disgustingly wonderful. Might grab it for pc at this price.

  • Well worth it. A steal at this price.

  • Played this game while recovering from wisdom teeth surgery. Excellent game! Would play again

  • Gold Edition (with all DLC) is also $13.49. Does anyone know why the Gold Edition doesn't show up in the Steam app store, but it's listed on their website store? Very odd.
