Wish I still had my bike :(

Look around for people using these on their bikes, you could probably break it with a spoon

      • +10

this is not something you secure your bike with, its so u can do maintenance on without the bike falling over or to help hold the bike up while you take the rear wheel off

        • +1

Great for doing those pesky chain lubes!

  • Good deal.

  • Aldi finally have their motorbike gear sale and I already have most of everything I need.

    That'd be right!

  • Damn their gear is cheap, wouldn't trust it though. I was hoping to pick up a motorcycle GPS but I guess the case + a cheap GPS will do.

  • Aldi's gear is cheap, but remember you get what you pay for.

    • +5

there is the 60 day no questions asked return policy though! Not all Aldi gear is cheap

  • -7

I'd rather spend retail price on higher quality gear that will have a higher change of saving my skin or head from being burnt off thank you very much. I hope no one here buys things like this from any store like ALDI…
As for the stand, it seems OK.

    • +2

Their gear has the right protection ratings, the right material, and most likely the right stitching on the clothing. The only thing I would stay away from is the helmet. Spend good money on a helmet.

Note the load rating of the ramp though. 200kg… will rule out a lot of larger bikes.

      • +2

Agree helment is the only thing i wouldn't buy. Cheaper to buy some icecream from wollies and use that, just as good XD

      • +3

what? so you'd buy all the other gear because it has "the right protection ratings" and "the right material" but you wouldn't buy a helmet, which has the most stringent ratings system of all applied to it, from them? There's no law which ensures you wear a jacket, pants, boots etc with adequate protection on it so what makes you think that gear is any better than their helmets?

        • the problem is more whether you can trust that the goods have met the ratings - as was shown with a recent ACCC fine toward Aldi, you can't always believe what you read on the label.

        • I would prob give the helmet a go

          most stringent is debateable

it meets a minimum standard set by the government

shame they arent doing the boots and tank bags again

        • -1

I wouldn't pay anything less than $300 for a helmet. As for the gear, I'd invest into brands such as Dainese and Alpinestars that focus on testing their gear on a regular bases. Quality is EVERYTHING when it comes to riding a bike. ATGATT (All the Gear All the Time)

        • The motorcycle helmet safety standards are widely considered to be inadequate. No rider in their right mind would buy a $99 helmet with a shell made with the same material as ping pong balls. Most cheap helmets are also heavy, uncomfortable and not aerodynamic.

        • morini, I already have the safety gear and yes I spent some $$$ on it all.

There is no law to force riders to wear safety gear other than a helmet, so surely someone buying some of this gear because they are on a budget is better than them continuing to wear no protection. Let's not get into the morality of someone riding a bike with minimal protective gear.

WRT the helmets, it's worth spending the money. Buyers can get very good helmets cheap if they are an 'old' design. I did. $500 helmet for $250. When it comes to your noggin, don't go cheap.

        • +1

some of the highest rated helmets are among the cheapest. http://sharp.direct.gov.uk/

I don't know about Aldi helmets, but I would think they would have to meet national standards in order to be sold. The same isn't true of any of the other gear they're selling so I just don't understand why you'd be willing to risk your skin inside their jackets, pants, boots, gloves etc but not the helmets. Personally, I wouldn't wear either.

        • I'm not risking my skin. Seems you need to read my posts better.

        • +1

It's more important to get a helmet that fits your head right rather than buy the most expensive you can afford. What's the use of a $600 helmet if it doesn't fit - it's not going to protect your head the way it was designed.

        • +1

Sure every helmet has to be complaint to AS/NZS1698 and display the sticker on the outside of it to be road legal, but there is a huge difference between cheapies and dearer ones. For example the cheaper ones usually have a plastic shell that isn't as strong and are very heavy whereas the dearer ones tend to be made from fibre glass and often reinforced with carbon fibre and are much stronger and lighter.

Personally for someone on a limited budget to start with and planning on getting my Ls I quite like the price of their riding gear as it will allow me to get pants, jacket, gloves and boots all to start off with and once I get some more money and buy additional sets of gear next year I'll buy better pants, etc. I already have a $500 helmet though (from car track days), that's something I wouldn't skimp on…

Plus whilst there aren't formal minimum requirements in Aust for their riding gear, in the brochure and on the website it says all the protectors etc in their gear meet CE standards…

  • thats a great deal! I brought an Anderson stand a year ago and it was about $250.00 from MCA

    Now to find a bike

  • Does anyone know what the availability of these sorts of special stock is like in Aldi stores (in particular the Wollongong area)?

  • +1

Nice find. I have those gloves from Aldi. Purchased last year to wear in winter with a thermal underglove. So far no complaints. I don't use them on the track or in hot weather, but for commuting and most day to day riding they are good.

Gonna check out the long jacket. If it's warm, then it will become a commuting jacket. Also grab a pair of socks, and check out the helmets as a secondary for passenger or commuting. I have my expensive helmets as well, but I know the process of importing helmets into this country well and anything that can pass those tests is worth a look.
I'd also look at the paddock stands, that's half the price of anything you get usually. I already have a set, but this would be a great starting point for those looking to get a stand. It can do both front fork and back swingarm lift.

  • anyway, the gps cover seems not bad. i may be able to put my iphone (for tomtom, etc) in it.

  • Awesome, I've been wanting to get one of these stands, and I can upgrade to a proper bike cover, from the old bed sheet I've been using, lol.

  • I was there today couldn't find any moto gear. To which Aldi store do I have to go? A bit confused…

    • this gear will be in store from Thursday.

  • Thanks for this!! I got a new cbr250r and had a bad off 3 weeks in and i had a cheap helmet which cost $100 and $10 gloves. It saved my life cause i knocked my head straight onto the curb. my fingers were absolutely fine.

Wore jeans and a layer of pants underneath, so my knees were scraped and were bleeding a bit.

In terms of helmet, I think if its meets the standard, it'll do the job, you are paying mostly for design and marketing after that.

    • I almost bought that bike too. Glad to hear you survived the off ok. How was the bike?

      • Oh did you end up buying another bike?

(i dont know my jargon) lots of damage of the left, the Left part of the front wheel was cracked, the left mirror snapped off, the left fairing had a massive dent, gear-changer thing snapped off lol…repair quote 4k+, luckily i had full-comprehensive insurance, but im under 25 on Ls, usually its $300 excess but so i still paid $1000 to get it fixed…expensive lesson SIGHH! but riding is fun!

instead of paying $70 petrol to uni and work, i pay $15 a week lol and free parking at uni, save another $220/yr, free parking in ct too awesome :D

        • Got a Kawasaki Ninja 650RL. Wanted the bigger size and ability to unrestrict when the time comes…

Yep, gotta love the tiny fuel consumption and convenience!

  • Would have thought the sizes would be bigger - considering Sml and Med are always on the clearance racks at gear retailers.

  • I would never ever buy cheap safety gear…it can save your life tho
I paid 900$ for my halmet

    • -1

and that is why I drive a car. Seriously $900 for a helmet, I hope it can turn into a space helmet as well.

  • Just picked up my paddock stand. I double checked to make sure the box hadn't been previously opened. However after assembly I've noticed it's missing both short threaded knobs for securing the lift brackets. Looks like it came out of the factory minus this. At least my expectations of Aldi havn't been altered; providing almost all the parts in the box needed to construct your item.

Anyone else missing the short knobs?

Further, the whole rig looks like a pack of trained monkeys manufactured it. Mine is wonky, I can compensate by adjusting one of the bracket heights but it looks like it's over stressting one of the mounts. You get what you pay for. I'd not reccomend this stand.

    • Swingarm pickups are usually extra. That's what you are talking about right?

  • I brought 2 stands and set them up for the front and the rear!! Bloody Cheap and works great!!

    • +1

Did you have all the parts in box?

      • yep mine was complete. Pretty sturdy for me. I'm going to try out my new tyre warmers with these stands.

  • Hey guys, got two stands today, and both were wonky. Sure they work, but looked like it was going to break any minute.
Not much of a savings getting these cheap stands if it falls over and cracks a fairing, or worst fall on you while you are trying to twist that pesky oil filter off.

I'm going to return the stands later today.

Rjays rear stand is only $110 at MCAS, might consider that instead.

    • Most people loosen the oil filter first or loosen bolts on the tyres BEFORE mounting the bike on a stand. The stand are use to lift up the bike only. If you need to work on your bike use a proper bike lift.

      • I'm using mine to simply oil the chain. I'm with Chum though, the stand still looks like it's going to break any minute.

      • You must have got two of the best examples around. Each to their own, but I'm just saying that it ain't that great of a buy. If you love them, then that's great for you.
I would rather pay a little more and get something built a bit sturdier.

  • I also bought two. Even with mixing and matching parts between the two, I can't make a decent stand. Its either loose or wonky. One of the stands even has the bolt holes drilled so close to the end of the frame, they are not a complete circle. These are going back to aldi asap. Can anyone recommend a good stand that lets you lift up by the swing arms like this one was supposed to?

    • I got a Corsa brand from an accessories shop in Brisbane for about $70. Does the job fairly well. Could have spent a bit more I suppose but figured if it was sturdy enough I would be fine. So far so good.

  • Anyone try the $70 pants?

  • Got the helmet, riding with it for the last 2 days, it has a whistling noise…considering returning it, its return with receipt and no questions asked right?
