Will this modem work for AussieBroadband HFC NBN?

Looking to see if this modem would be decent for a 2 story house, with a phone line. Would this do OK for self setup? Any potential issues?

  • No,
You need something like this - TP-Link AC1750 Wireless Dual Band Gigabit Router Archer C7
The one you choose is a ADSL modem which will not work.

it will work on router mode , but a waste for now,

but then you can use it when you moved to new place with FTTN which requires VDSL modem

you don't need modem for HFC NBN as NBN will provide NTD which acts as "modem"

you only need a good router, perhaps asus rt-ac68u

  • You dont need the VDSL / ADSL part of the router, but yes it would work.

HFC comes with a box that connects to the coax cable and has an RJ45 connection. You can plug any wifi router (or computer) into it.

  • Yes it will work.
I have one and I'm with ABB.

It will work in router mode, but you wont get the best available speeds unless your on the 12 plan.

  • with a phone line

wait, you're after a home phone service as well ? then better stick with ABB's modem to ensure voip settings compatibility

    • Thanks for the heads up, what should I be looking for when considering VOIP?

      • if you're going with ABB's voip, they also sell netcomm modem to suit

if you BYO buy your own modem with voip to use with ABB's voip, then you'll have to check with ABB or research your own to make sure it will work.

not sure if ABB will provide technical support on configuring VOIP for BYO modem

      • I use MizuDroid to connect a spare Android phone to VoIP. I don't need a traditional telephone, an ATA or a FXS port anymore.

Spintel's VoIP server also accepts registration through the cellular network, and my landline service has become a mobile service. Though I don't know whether ABB allows this configuration.

  • You'll only have 3 LAN ports left once the NTD is connected.
