Does ShopBack Reward The Total Price, Excluding Gift Cards?

I purchased an eBay product (phone) for $809 and used $700 worth of gift cards. This was during the 12% cashback frenzy. I've read in comments from Shopback moderators that they accepted the use of gift cards. However, I've only received cashback for $109 worth ($13). I emailed the site and they responded with:

"Do inform the Cashback is rejected because of the payment using any type of voucher or eBay credit may result in your purchase being ineligible to earn cashback. Hence as a good gesture, we are trying to honour you. However we unable to honour you the amount of A$809.00. It is because the site has mentioned the Cashback is calculated Excludes taxes, fees or additional extras. Hence we can't calculate it with "additional extras". It must be the calculation for a final paid price."

I was wondering if this is the case or is the site meant to honour the full price I technically paid as they've themselves stated that gift cards are allowed to be used and cashback will still apply?

  • Where on the Shopback website does it say it includes giftcards?

Because I know with Cashrewards, it specifically says it excludes giftcards - i'd assume the same for shopback.

Was it a 5yo who replied to your query? I would suggest sending a PM to the store rep to clarify.

Comment from the store rep on a eBay Shopback thread.

    • Was it a 5yo who replied to your query?

Probably an outsourced worker from India, I'm guessing, who has no idea how to interpret the rules.

  • used $700 worth of gift cards.

Are these not entered into the Coupon / Voucher section?

As it clearly says here https://www.shopback.com.au/ebay-australia

Purchases made with the use of Coupon / Voucher Codes are a no no

If you navigate to eBay on Shopback's app, it clearly says in the terms that "Cashback is valid when gift cards are used as a payment method".

      • strange, as gift cards go into the Coupon / Voucher section, which in other parts of the T&Cs they say are a no no

  • I was wondering if this is the case or is the site meant to honour the full price I technically paid as they've themselves stated that gift cards are allowed to be used and cashback will still apply?

Full or partial payment with gift cards will void cashback.
Cashback is calculated on final price less GST and fees.
Anything extra is pure good will gesture.

    • Shopback allow use of eBay gift card which using any promotional code will make the purchase ineligible for cash back.

      Your first statement is incorrect.

PM Shopback rep gotyourback. He said GCs are OK for payments so either the rules changed or the cashback system made an error.

  • Different for me I used Giftcard to purchase items at rebel online as part of shopback increase in % they never honoured it even though it shows on the click history I had to raise a support request and it’s been 11 days and still waiting… I guess this is common when I checked out their reviews here

  • Shopback has been quietly changing T&Cs on some stores recently. For example Cellarmasters NOW says (hiding in the fine print) "Cashback will be calculated based on Purchase amount after Discount & Giftcard Usage"… but the giftcard bit wasn't there in the past.

Unless you watch like a hawk & take screenshots (to capture cashback + T&Cs at the time) & are willing to raise queries, correct cashback is a tiresome effort.

I sent a pm to the store rep and he's saying I should've received 12% of the total purchase ($809) so a team is re-looking into my case.
    Will update with the result.
