  • Anyone shucked one and used it in a QNAP NAS? Will this play well with my Ironwolfs that are in there?

  • What RPM drive is inside one of these? Thanks

5400 one of the older threads mentioned, don't have the link handy as I've closed the tab now.

  • Any good for using with PS4 as additional storage? My 500gb PS4 is running out of storage

    • From what I read this is powered so get one of the portable ones that run off usb. I have one of the Seagate portable 2tb

Cool thing I discovered first hand recently, any games installed on the usb will work if you replace the console.

Was an unexpected surprise that I didn't have to download nearly 900gb in games again.

I suppose the question now, what's more reliable the the external Hdd, the internal Hdd or the ps4 itself?

I've decided to keep the games spread evenly across both drives.

    This is super expensive imo

2tb externals were going for $50 5-6 years ago here on ozbargain

4tb for the same price per gig 5-6 years later is shocking imo

I don't recall ever seeing 2TB for $50… but sure, that was also when the AUD was above parity with the USD.

  • Sale starts on 05/12/19. Does this mean the price will be reflected on line after midnight tonight or do we have to wait until opening hours tomorrow? Also will OW price match?

    • I would say when the stores open

      Also will OW price match?

I would say that they can

  • I picked up a 4TB Seagate Backup Plus Hub @ Officeworks the other day for $75. Was on clearance and was the last one left.
Might be a good idea to check your local to see if they're running the same clearance as it's no longer listed on the website.

id just like to make 2 comments:

    1. people who have issues with portable HDDs have probably knocked or move them while in use. take ultra care, when im using mine i make sure they do not move or my desk is jumping around. use something like crystal disk on them every few months so u can see if they start to fail. if you get a bad hdd DOA, it probably was damaged or thrown about in transit

    2. u guys wonder why these drives are so cheap? the drives they use in externals are off a lesser quality, in that they probably just missed whatever quality targets they require to be sold as internal drives. obviously the read/write expectancy would be lower, but when used in an external drive im pretty sure companies aren't expecting the disks to be used in 24/7 type sitautions, where as being in a desktop they are more prone to being read/write to. so sure you can shuck the drives, but if they were intended to be used in that manner they would be sold as internals.

i have no clue which idiot downvoted this lmao.

hard drives are filtered similar to a binning process. its like how good CPUS get branded as higher ended ones and then ones that didn't meet the mark become i5s and so on rofl

  • These are most likely SMR drives as opposed to WD which have PMR drives.
If you're shucking them for a NAS, they can be a bit slow.

    • Thanks.

  • Thanks OP.
Melbourne, Elizabeth Street store no stock. Getting mine C&C from South Wharf DFO.

  • 25 left at Greensborough as of 0935hrs

  • Anyone know how long this will last?

Or if you are referring to the life of the Drive… I have two of these connected to my Plex library for the last 2+ years, active 24/7….no problems yet.

  • Wondering if I should use these or switch to 8tb disks for plex / nas (old pc so no issue with bays currently). I already have 1 4tb disk which I was planning to use in raid 5 once I had enough drives.

  • Jerry has lodged a cheaper bid at $98.

    Save a buck…

  • I hate how they advertise these crap! 4TB when you plug in in 3.5TB free storage space

    • So it is actually 4TB, what Windows reports as 3.6TB is actually 3.6TiB. I know you can make file managers display it properly on GNU/Linux, not sure about Windows.

  • The portable 2.5" version of this drive is $138 at JB Hi Fi. Is one hard drive more robust/ hardy than the other (comparing the 2.5" vs 3.5" Seagate Expansion)? I think I killed my existing 2.5" Seagate when it slipped from my hands and dropped a few inches onto a table.

  • Is the drive Mac compatible???

    • Yes but you may need to format it first using Disk Utility on Mac

  • picked up the last 2 on the shelf from my local JB store ( + used the 'Wednesday Only' 5%-off coupon offer ) for a total cost of $188.10 :)

  • 22 December update: Available for C&C at Officeworks $99
