TPG Mobile Tethering Enabled and Free!

Moved to Forum: Original Link

TPG has finally enabled mobile tethering. (Including wifi tethering which you can't do previously.)

A lot of people has been asking for this feature but it seems like it's only recently activated with no announcement.

Enable tethering in your mobile control panel, wait about 10-15 minutes, and it's done.

    So what's the bargain ???

Yeah I'm confused what this actually does or means? Is this an iPhone thing? (ie. another hilarious loop you iSheep have to jump through)?

I've been bluetooth tethering (and wireless hotspotting) my TPG plan with my N900 since start of last year…

    • The bargain is that previously you might have paid to get tethering enabled. Or if you are not on tpg because you wanted to tether your idevice, now you can join.

      • The bargain is that previously you might have paid to get tethering enabled.

If that is the case, this is just an announcement of new T&C's not a bargain as such…

  • Like others I've used tethering on multiple plans for well over a year. I suspect the "switch" in the control panel is actually a mechanism to disable the feature, rather than enabling a new feature.

  • liveconnected seem to have better value plans. the $15 plan has tethering + 330/370/1GB

    • nvm..

    • Not everyone can sign up with live connected. Almost everyone can sign up with TPG.

      • why not? there's no limitations? unless you are talking about the voda/3 special plan which isn't that great without 1300 numbers

        • Because Live Connected have stricter credit check than the other bigger telcos such as Telstra and Optus. Even with an Australian driver license and completing 24 months off my $49 Optus contract, i couldn't port my number over. Live connected simply deemed me as an high risk client because i was an international student. But that's quite a while back, went with TPG and never regret it.

does anyone know why iPhones need tethering to be unlocked? How is it controlled at the network side? Like with android you just hit wifi hotspot and bang its going - regardless of if it's network supported or not? How/Why does the iPhone block this?

    • i think google by choice made android differentiate between usage on phone and tethering so carriers can charge you extra for tethering if specified. major carriers seem not to care but watch out with budget resellers

    • When you turn on the iPhone with a Optus SIM card, it downloads the carrier setting to your phone. If the carrier (Optus) disable tethering, you would received a message asking you to contact your provider. Only paying the $10 tethering fee would enable tethering.

    • Vodafone allows tethering on the iphone at no charge, it's a carrier thing

  • I think it had been Optus that was causing the problem, but not sure if it was a technical or marketing issue.

  • this is definitely a bargain for me
I have asked TPG about tethering few months ago and they said they are not going to do it
I was considering getting a wireless internet dongle to use for my laptop for my upcoming travel and now I've saved and can utilise the data provided in my cap plan! BARGAIN!

    THANKS

  • I thought tethering was something of a constraint of the mobile phone?

I've been tethering for years now..
