Blackberry Bold 9780 Unlocked for $219 Delivered. Too good to be true?

Hi Guys,

I'me new and I don;t know whether this is the right forum to discuss this. My apologyif I'm lost.

I was looking for a used Blackberry Bold 9780 on Ebay and found this: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/New-Unlocked-Blackberry-Bold-9780…. I know it is too good to be true. But do you guys think it is worth to risk it? Considering I would get protection from Paypal anyway. Any thought would be appreciated. Thank you.

I'd say wait until there's an english feedback on his feedback page!

It's not worth the risk. The procedure you have to go through to get the money back from Paypal is quite painful from what I heard. And it doesn't guarantee your money back because Paypal can only return your money if it haven't been extracted from the seller's account.

Not worth it. Don't do it.

  • Not true. Getting money back via Paypal is very easy and buyers (almost) have the absolute power here. It would take time though but hassle-free. And even if the seller has withdrew the funds, Paypal will still pays you. But only true with transactions via Ebay. Otherwise would be a different story.

Looks like a scam to me.

Take at a look at his feedback as a seller, seem fishy for someone who claim to have 6 handsets in stock (Blackberry Bold 9780) for sell.

    • last things he's sold and received feedback for was in 15th March
    • Last time he's sold a phone was in 2009
    • Majority of the feedbacks dates before 2006
    • Not to mention all the feedbacks are in German, or god knows what language.

What probably happened is that the account was transferred to another user, who saw potential in using it to scam unaware ebayers (there's too many who sees a positive feedback and thinks its a genuine sell). I'm not saying that you can't land a bargain on ebay, but like you said, if it looks too good to be true, then its probably bogus.

As for paypal, it does offer some form of protection, but it is time consuming, and your money is tied up until the case is settled in your favour. There's a thread couple months back regarding paypal protection, have a read if you're interested.

  • Thanks John and blackrider89.. I heard stories just like John said, but from the forums on eBay I can conclude that it is safe (and relatively easy) to pay via Paypal on eBay although the seller might have extinct. At the moment, I'm thinking to take the risk as the price is really good. Any other thoughts?

I'd still recommend against it. Your time isn't all you stand to lose if they're fraudulent, they get your full name, address, email and phone number as well.

      • Yeap, true

  • Thanks iChopsticks, I think I would just hold my buying impulse for the time being lol!

His 2 non positive feedback translates to -

ware schlecht beschrieben.ist nicht entgegenkommend hauptsache verkauft

item described poorly. is not sold accommodating the main thing

Weste fehlt, angebot. Teilerstattung nicht erfolgt, Flecken im Innenfutter

Vest lacks quality. Partial refund is not, stains on the lining

  • Given that the majority of the feedback is quite old, consider that the ebay account may have been hacked. If the corresponding paypal account has also been hacked, your claim could well be rejected.
