No offence, just being honest, but someone on their P's almost certainly has a smart phone capable of doing the same thing for free. Maybe look into buying them a good phone mount with a charging kit etc?

    $199 for a GPS? Is this 2004?

Garmin maps are very good. TomTom, not so much. I work with emergency services sometimes and we all use Garmin. The maps are so spot on. Just wish they didn't charge for the speed camera package each year

Edit: also live traffic is great. Live weather is a hassle to setup (requires phone), but your in a car, so just look out window

  • Don't purchase this without researching the map update system with Garmin. It is truly horrendous.
Plenty of online reviews stating the 'pleasures' of using the Garmin update.

I wouldn't use this crap even if it was free.

Buy a mobile phone, get a mounting kit, and use Google Maps like every other person this century.

  • Dont buy any GPS. Install Waze, way better than Google Maps

I guess the best mobile GPS app is Sygic.
I've been using it for years with my Android phone (Google 4.7/5). Also, available for iOS.

    • no internet required, 100% offline but if there is internet available the map will show you traffic condition, alerts, etc.
    • speed camera, the best feature specially if you are driving around places you are not used to. Also, no because I want to speed but to remind me keeping in the safe side.
    • layout simple, no useless features.
    • Premium Car Connected: I have this one which allows you to connect your mobile to some cars' model screen and the GPS is displayed on the car multimedia screen.
    • if you want just a basic GPS, they have the basic app.
    • Sygic Truck: Theoretically, it alerts about bridges, etc, so truck drivers don't get stuck coz the truck height and so on. Never tried it tho.
    • toll vs no toll: tells you about tolls on your way
    • and so on.

I would prefer to buy an Android tablet with GPS and use it than spending with a GPS device.
Versatility is much bigger with a tablet, you can try different GPS apps if you want all in one place, just connect the tablet to your home wifi or your mobile via sharing its 4G and the maps are update. No need to have a computer, software, etc, to update maps.
