Hello, I'm looking to buy a torch and a lantern for my son, who loves playing with my real torch but often ends up staring straight at the light. I'm looking for a torch and a lantern that are dim enough not do do harm if stared at! Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Unfortunately not
Mini Mag light ($20 to $25 delivered) and half flat batteries. Will never break it. Looks like a real torch (cause it is). Or, remove the globe and replace it with a frosted white LED (not a superbright LED, because you will just be back at square one.)
Perhaps apply white spray paint to the lens? Adding more coats as necessary?
Fisher price and little tykes both make lanterns.
My kids have the orange fisher price one and it can be used as a torch or lantern.
Just put in some nearly-flat AA batteries :)
