  • If you have an .edu email address (that is, if you have attended TAFE or university before, and have been given an email address from them) go to

    http://www.microsoft.com/australia/office/startinguni/
    or
    http://www.microsoft.com/student/office/en-au/default.aspx

If you don't have a .edu email address, then find someone who does (a friend or relative).

  • and if you don't have access to edu/charity pricing…

http://www.estore.com.au/Microsoft_Office_Professional_2010_… … can get it a little cheaper (~$347) from smaller stores according to statice.com.au too

Be warned about buying from smaller stores on static ice. I recently proclaimed myself a hero at work and purchased a copy of Office Pro for a work PC from a "smaller" store found on static ice at a great price. I received the package, noticed the retail pack didn't quite look like a legit AU retail version (I assumed it was a grey import), installed it 100% OK - but when it went to verify itself online it wouldn't accept the CD key. I called the retailer, who swore they had sold "hundreds" of copies without a problem. I called Microsoft who informed me the CD Key was "a known compromised key" and I may have been sold a counterfeit product. After several calls to the retailer they reluctantly refunded me. (Microsoft offered to take the product in themselves and provide me the real deal if I agreed to provided copies of receipts and emails sent back and forth between myself and the retailer). If I hadn't been so embarrassed at work I may have sent the product to Microsoft but I opted to send it back to the retailer for a refund. My lesson: Don't always go for the cheapest price on Static ice from a smaller retailer.
