Looking for a 27” computer monitor for home office use to connect to ThinkPad laptop. Mainly for reading documents, spreadsheets and reading engineering PDF plans.
Would appreciate recommendations please and extra points for any on sale! :-D

Sounds like you bought a 1080P 32" screen? With larger screens it is critical to get one with a suitable resolution. I wouldn't buy anything less than 2560x1440 for a 27" screen and would be looking at 4K for anything 32 or above (except the ultrawide 21:9s of course).
If you're buying a large monitor make sure it has a sufficiently high resolution, 1440p and upwards. Especially if it's used for work / reading.
Check out the Dell factory outlet, they usually have some good deals this time of year. I've got 2 of their 27" monitors that were on their main page for $1200 each for around $300 ish. (UP2716D)

Keep to a 27", don't be tempted by a bigger screen.
I purchased a 32" one a few months ago for the same purpose and it's damn near unusable because I am a fool and thought 'That doesn't look too bad' when it was placed next to even bigger monitors
