Whatever price you negotiate, make sure that you factor in the new battery you're gonna need in 6-12 months time! I've had quite a few friends & colleagues buy demo models only to have the battery die mucho rapido!

I'm no expert in Li-Ion battery tech, but it seems that leaving them running powered up 24/7 & over holiday weekends etc mustn't be good for them! ;)

    • some stores take the battery out on display models but all new laptops would have smart-charging gauges so it's not TOO big an issue. other thing i can think of is display which is on 24/7 and would lose a good many hours of lifetime but less of an issue with LEDs (10000hours i think?) than LCDs

This the battery will wear out(in terms of capacity)
I use BatteryBar to see how much my laptops battery has worn out
New laptops usually have 0-5% worn out, but since yours is a a demo, i would say it can only hold 50% of its initial capacity(if your luckY)

  • so what sort of discount should i go for or expect?

    • Depending how long it has been a demo and wether the warranty can be used as if new.

If its been a demo for say a year then i would pay 50% maybe less, generally they demo until new model is released and or the model is no longer for sale.

2 questions to ask, am i able to use the warranty as if new? ie if the battery fails within the first year then under warranty no problems.

Bit of a touchy question because legally the warranty starts when you take it out of box, but if your receipt doesnt say ex demo then i cant see if being a problem.

My opinion would be dont buy it!

  • been on display for 6 months and the guy offered me a lousy 5% and wouldn't budge store policy apparently.even though they had apple laptops for %10 right next to them and they were new!! apparently battery not attached, but still was looking at at least 20%, so no deal.

    • DEFINITE NO!

5% is very very very little

You can 'bargain' or 'hassle' better than that

  • not used to bargaining from the u.k!! do you have any tips??

    • find the cheapest price ie staticice.com.au or shopbot.com.au, then ask them to match it, or ring around till someone does……

    • not suprised they dont have a ukbargain.co.uk

  • Yeah hotukdeals is great, but you can't really barter over there in big stores like over here.
