I've been waiting a while to add more of these to the home setup - they're usually around the $30 (or higher) mark.

In lieu of any other decent (and decently priced) switches that can be used in Australia on Philips Hue and LIFX^ bulbs, this remains the switch for me (albeit by default).

Rumours of LIFX releasing their own switch have been circulated, but nothing confirmed that I can see.

Enjoy.

^ To control LIFX bulbs, Hue hub & an Apple device (eg. iPad or Apple TV) required, it seems. Not sure if possible with Android.

EDIT: Black Friday price $19.40! Go get some!

I saw it at this price few days ago, but want to wait till tomorrow to see if Amazon runs the deals on Philips Hue again.

    • I really hope they don't discount it further tomorrow….my order today included free overnight delivery haha (prime member)

      • You can chat with them to get credit for the different. Yeah very happy with Free One Day Delivery. I dont need to rush to any store to buy. Spending $1k so far for Amazon😂

        • True, or worst case scenario I return them and order anew tomorrow.

Or, just be satisfied with the current discount and move on. Watch this space

    • …and if they do we'll see another year's worth of people selling off excess hubs on gumtree!

    • Same. I'm fully expecting around 20% off tomorrow.

  • Interested to know how you use the dimmer with LIFX bulbs?

Didn't explain in the post because there's plenty of info online.

The 4 switches on the Hue Dimmer Switch can be used with LIFX as 4 independently programmed switches, via HomeKit app / Shortcuts app / Eve app. For example, mine is programmed via Home app, and is used to control the bedroom lights - ceiling oyster and floorlamp.

My 4 switches are, top to bottom:
      1. Ceiling on 100%
      2. Ceiling on 30%
      3. Floorlamp on 2%
      4. Ceiling and Floorlamp OFF

You can also control things like colour, and program in more complex scenarios (for example, detecting on/off states via Eve app) but this didn't work well for me so i went back to the more simple settings above. Having said that, my home internet has been atrocious recently so perhaps once it's fixed I'll try Eve again.

      • Do you need the Hue Hub for this? Or works right out of the box with the LIFX bulbs?

My setup is: Hue Dimmer Switch talks to Hue hub, which talks to Apple TV which talks to LIFX and Hue bulbs.

The Apple TV acts as the link between the multiple systems, and applies the programmed rules I believe.

          I followed this guide: https://www.reddit.com/r/lifx/comments/aboe8s/hue_dimmer_swi…

          • @andresampras: I have an Apple TV but no other Apple devices - is it still possible to setup Homekit on the Apple TV?

            • @AdrianW: Short answer is I'm not sure - in order to set up the 4 button functions, I'd say you need an Apple device with Home app.

Don't quote me on that though…

        • LIFX are wifi, Hue stuff is Zigbee - so, no it won't work without a Hue Hub.

It also sounds like you need an Apple device in the mix.

          • @AdrianW: Cheers. Not 100% sure if it needs to specifically be an Apple device, but I've added a note to the post.

      • Yes, I use via smartthings and webcore.

Just the way you said it made it sound like there was an easier way!

I see how it sounded now. Post updated, please forgive me :)

For me once i realised I needed the Hue hub (and I already had an Apple TV), setup was fairly easy - I take it for granted now.

  • These are great. Have one on my bedside table. Also have the sensor switch. In fact got a heap of stuff when Amazon had a Philips special running a while back

    • does the motion sensor work well? do you use them just with philips lights, or anything else? I'd like one but don't need one at $45

      • The sensors are fantastic, i have about a dozen of them and they all work brilliantly. Some i also have sensor couple linking multiple sensors.

      • I’ve got two sensors set up at the moment in the hallway to just turn on the light when someone is in it, one at each end. It takes a little tweaking the sensitivity but once done works fine.

        • Motion Sensors now down to $29.90 for Black Friday. Just got one woo

For anyone looking for a lifx switch solution. Smartthings is now available at JB hifi. I started with the kit from RACQ/Lifx (~$200)

The Button, door open/close sensor and motion sensors work well. About 1 second delay on motion sensors.

    • Assuming you need the Smartthings hub as well, to make it work with LIFX?

    • I've been looking for a soloution for the LIFX thanks for the heads up. Is there much delay with the button?

And do you need the WIFI Smart hub or is the standard unit ok?

Was tempted to get this to add into my Home Assistant setup with deconz, but then I saw it's not supported too well (https://github.com/dresden-elektronik/deconz-rest-plugin/iss…). Oh well. :-)

    • +1

I have these as my light switches all over the house (15 of them)

They work perfectly with deCONZ and home assistant / Node-Red

The respective code stands next to the buttons for the following event:
      1000 initial press
      1001 single hold
      1002 single short release
      1003 single hold release
      1004 double short press
      1005 triple short press
      1006 quad short press
      1010 five + short press

      • Thanks for the info - I'll put them on my wish list again. :-)

  • Hoping it'll go down to $21.40 like last month!

    • yeah by the time I woke up and saw the notification email, the deal was done. Sadface.

      • If you get an Echo device you can get 20% off the dimmer (and other smart devices) which brings it down to $21.

Buy a $39 dot for a xmas pressie, get your $21 dimmer. Win-win.

        • Echo/GHome etc - no thanks. Call me paranoid but they're technically capable of allowing anyone to listen in.

Not saying it's probable, just that I don't like the always-on microphone presence in my home.

Rightly or wrongly, I trust Siri more an ddon't feel like introducing another.

  • It’s $19.40 now.

    • Back up to regular price on Amazon and at TGG.

Bunnings still has it as $19.40 so lock in that click and collect now before they wise up!
