Best Universal Travel Adapter

Hi there,

Was wondering if you guys can recommend an universal travel adapter(Asia and Middle East), preferably with USB ports as well.

Much appreciated.

Cheers

Beware universal adapters as these can break your device or cause serious damage or even death if you get a cheap one.

    • For my last trip, I bought a 2pack for rather budget and not cheap one and one them failed and they felt cheap so stopped using them completely.
I agree, I want to invest in a good one now.

Firstly, make sure your device can do spectrum voltage, as the adapter will not convert voltage. We normally take a multi port power cube, with USB ports, and buy one adapter, per region, to plug the cube into the wall. We buy from travel stores. Not that expensive each.

Spectrum Voltage seems to be 100v - 240v
      (I've never heard that name)

      On adapters, I like Small, Well-Built, &
      1 per country-system (I usually pay <$2)

In any case, try Not to Pay EXTRA for
      100v - 240v compatibility; it =can't= be
so costly to design "Spectrum Voltage"
into a device, & more folks are travel'g
      so, it's Not a rare/specialty feature
      in an over-packed suitcase.

We got some larger (~size of RubrixCube)
ones, with levers to slide to change the
configuration, but they were too big Not
to maybe punch hole(s) in thin facbrics.

      • That was what I meant by the term spectrum voltage. Some people think they can plug a 240v device into 110v, or vice versa, and the device will work because they have a travel converting plug. Most travel items, e.g. most shavers, do have this functionality, but worth checking the device to make sure before packing :)

  • To be honest, unless you are trying to get the smallest physical package possible I would always advise to take a normal 4- or 6-port Australian powerboard and then use a single travel adapter to let you plug the powerboard in once you are overseas.

This gives you lots more flexibility than just using a multi-prong travel adapter by itself.

I just bought this one from Amazon because it has USB ports and auto-resetting fuse (I figured having to find a new fuse whilst on holiday would be less than ideal). It came today and seems nicely made although I haven't used it much yet. https://www.amazon.com.au/gp/product/B07QZJ3PFK/ref=ppx_yo_d…

  • I bought one of these…

    Works great.

Bound to go on special again somewhere.

  • If it's Asia such as Thailand. If you have the bend 2 plug, not the earth, just force it in their straight 2 plug. Save some $$$ on an adapter.
