Playbar is amazing. It’s underrated because it’s old but I think it kicks the arse out of the Beam and the Playbase. I think people get blinded by the fact that the Beam takes HDMI when audio codec wise it actually can still only take Dolby 5.1, just like the Playbar.
i agree, Playbar is really good! They should update the product to include voice assistant — PlayBar II or something. I rather like the optical input because it's more foolproof than HDMI which can have occasional negotiation / latency problems.
Yes we thought the Playbase was nothing special either!
How does the beam compare to a similar product though? I WOULD expect the playbar to sound better than the beam considering its almost twice the price. I really need a bar to replace my home pod which my wife (and I) were really disappointed with.
Sounds rubbish compared to the Playbar though… I went in to JB HIfi to buy one based on my desktop research; walked out with a Playbar and Sub because it sounded DRAMATICALLY better. Other competing products also sounded much better than the Beam… like the Samsung and Bose soundbars.
Yeah wife said Playbar is obviously better you fool but Beam has such great reviews everywhere I thought maybe we didn't hear it right. I left JB Hifi so confused haha.

I was at JB Hifi the other day. Both my wife and I thought the Playbar sounds great, but Beam was surprisingly bad. Is it possible that JB did not set it up properly?
