Return Monitor (X34P) or Not? - Stuck Black Sub-Pixel Centre Screen. Not Sure How Bad IPS Glow Is

Hey all! This monitor has blown my socks off as an ex 'semi-gaming laptop' user (<- oxymoron). However, we've got a stuck black* [edit - white] sub-pixel in the centre screen area and what to me looks like some pretty wicked IPS glow in the bottom left. See imgur: https://imgur.com/a/9sSu8u5

I didnt realise how bad either was until seeing dark/set at night games. Cant see very much at all in the bottom left due to the glow. Photo is taken at midnight IRL with no lights on in room.

I've contacted seller (Mwave) about a return. Monitor overclocks to 120hz, I know everything is great except for the sub-pixel. Am not sure how bad this IPS glow is. What are people's thoughts? Is this IPS glow bad, normal, awful? Is it a return job?

I can't tell where the black sub-pixel is in you're photo. That backlight bleeding looks pretty bad imo

    • Yea soz, photo isnt of a good scene to see the subpixel. Also my phone is older, pixel doesnt show up when taking a photo of the whole monitor in game, will in DeadPixelBuddy

    is it stuck or dead?

anyhow run http://www.jscreenfix.com/ or something and examine the monitor closely for other defects

my brother got an ASUS Rog Swift PG348Q in the past with a couple of dead pixels as well as something iffy resulting in a small column of screwed up pixels which got RMA'ed for a perfect one

    • True, sorry forgot to put that in post, I've run it through JScreenFix for about an hour already. I thought about trying the tip I saw of light pressing on that screen region, but didnt wanna make it worse if returning

I had a bright red pixel on my 27" QHD Samsung, but I forgot all about it after a couple days, and I'm the OCD type. So I wouldn't worry about a black pixel as it is the least intrusive colour.

However that back-light bleed would annoy me if it's as uneven as it appears in your photo. Return it.

its possible to fix stuck pixel with https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZjdrMuKpaCI (dont click if u have seizure problems). dead pixels are dead. i'd rather have red over black anyday.

        Not always. Mine wouldn't budge.

photos are not accurate indicator of ips glow. if u feel its too distracting and u had ips before, then its probably pretty bad. some companies might not do an exchange for dead pixel, even less for ips glow, but u can always try. btw black pixel=dead, stuck pixels are by definition bright. given how close it is to centre of screen u should ask for exchange.

    • Thanks! Yea I have been using the wrong term, its a stuck pixel that sticks to bright

Dont have much any experience with IPS, laptop screens have been VA I believe. It makes seeing in that corner super painful, especially at IRL night

If I only played bright games, the monitor would be perfect. Mwave's shop in my state is temporarily closed so it has to travel all the way to Queensland for them to assess it if I return…
seems like so much potential for damage in post if they dont refund a new monitor. Seems like a massive hassle, but also was a lot of $$

  • Think I've used the wrong term maybe, its a subpixel that is stuck bright when the display is dark. I cant see it fail to match the screen in any colour other than black in DeadPixelBuddy

  • Thanks for advice all! Understand photo isnt good indicator of glow, and night time dark room is worst case scenario for noticing glow, but photo feels how it looked while I was using the screen.

The glow looks bad but it's hard to tell in a photo. The pixel however will be intolerable, return it.
