Monarch Institute - experiences?

Hi ozB,

Been looking online for a non-shit RTO that won't fleece me and disappear before I get a certificate. I'm considering studying a cert iv in accounting & bookkeeping. The Monarch Institute has popped up and reviews on all platforms I've found seem positive - hoping someone on here may be able to offer some personal anecdotes though?

And yes I am still considering my local TAFE/uni rather than a private offering, but the only school near me is positively archaic and I want full online flexibility.

Cheers

Edit: would also be interested to hear suggestions for other RTOs that offer a Cert IV in Accounting & Bookkeeping

Well if the Queen has endorsed it…

    • Maybe it's the Sultan of Brunei.

      • Maybe it's a butterfly?

  • local TAFE/uni

I'd go with this. Consider this: you're choosing between online convenience vs risk of the place shutting down and being out of pocket thousands in fees or a useless piece of paper.

To me that's a no brainer.

    • I agree in principle, but not all universities are created equal. I'ma just leave this here…

From prior experiences with the local uni I would strongly prefer to not have anything to do with them.

      • Ah. I hadn't counted on even public unis being in those situations. That's not ideal.

        • Probably just collateral damage as a result of the funding freezes for universities…

They've been around since 2011. Not a huge length, but long enough to not be a fly by night operator.

Assuming they aren't advertising free laptops/iPads, I would say it would be safe enough.

  • Just thought I'd check - is Darwin your correct location?

      Correct

      • Fair enough. Was going to say if you happened to swing past Victoria, Accounting/Bookkeeping is free through TAFE at the moment.

        • Oof! That'd be good but no can do - thanks for your sleuthing on training.gov.au too

  • Here's a list of authorized RTO's who offer it but you'd have to find one that does it online.

My local only offers it either on campus or via the workplace which is interesting.

You'll basically be taught the same thing regardless of where you go as the packaging rules are fairly set in stone. It's just up to the teacher how they teach you.

  • I've done a diploma and advanced diploma through Monarch in 2014 and 2015 and they were fantastic. Highly recommend them. Kaplan is the other place that offers the same qualification, and Monarch is definitely the preferred option.

Not sure why you would rate Monarch over Kaplan. You provide no reason for that. Kaplan has quite a good reputation.

      • For these particular courses, Monarch had no supervised exams lol. Hence it is the preferred option for a lot of students that don't like exams. You're right though, Kaplan are pretty good for most of their qualifications. I'm currently doing a master's through them and no complaints.
