DAC/DAP Bought. CD Rip Software?

Hi there! I'm a high res audio newbie, but listen to music a lot and want something better.

I bought a cheap but well reviewed DAP from China. I have a pair of sennheiser HD58X.
The DAP can act as a USB DAC or standalone player. I have plenty of downloaded flac files I'm putting on it. My question though is what software do you recommend for ripping my CD collection into high res files?
Is it worth it or should I just hunt for the various cds on my favourite torrent site?

Furthermore, any audio buffs recommend a decent little amp to run potential future high impedance headphones? (58x's are 150 ohm)

Thanks for your input!

  • if you own the cd, its legal to download lossless torrents of it.

    • Yes that's right! I've downloaded some, but there's a lot I can't find. Rather obscure bands from the late 90s, early 00s are tricky to find in decent quality files on torrent sites, so am looking for a software solution for those discs I own :)

    • Is that the case here? Does the same apply to DVDs/BluRays? What about games? What about cross-platform content if you own on one platform? Where is the line drawn?

      • Depends on if they have copy protections, most music cds do not, dvds/bluray movies do have protections against being ripped.

Games only if they are drm free. You can clone them, and create an iso.

    • Yeah but a lot of torrents simply do not exist, and with the clamp down on torrent sites it's getting harder and harder to find any.
Would you have a small handful of website names?
I've stopped using torrents as much since the big crackdown.

      • I use a VPN with uTorrent routed/forced through it. Will not connect to anyone without running through the VPN first, internet kill switch if I lose VPN service.
I download anything I want and have done so for years.
I'm finding that, with there now being so many streaming services, I'm torrenting more and streaming less. I don't want to subscribe to 5 separate providers to watch five different shows. I'll buy the bluray of the shows I like though. But typically I have watched them on torrents first. ¯_(ツ)_/¯

I know the best piece of software.
    dBpoweramp.
It does a great job, it automatically pulls the meta data for your tracks and rips them quickly using multiple cores of your processor.
Of course you can obviously choose lossless quality as well. (I use a cracked version of the program)

    • Thanks! I'll look into it :)

ExactAudioCopy is another great option, includes error checking/correction, and compares checksums against it's Accurip database to make sure you don't have a dud CD

    • Thanks for that, I'll have a look at it too
