  • Dam…. This is getting better Everytime it pops up.

Really hoping I can find a nice doorbell+chime deal during black Friday otherwise I might end up going with this.

      Hi Fooah,

I am only after the two stick up cams (have this doorbell and chime already and been a reasonably happy customer got the past 18 months or so) so if you are only after the doorbell and chime we might be able to work out a deal to split, particularly if you are in Melbourne. Feel free to PM me if interested. Cheers

      • I'll keep that in mind joed- I'll pm you if I end up buying this in a few days. Thanks!

Keep in mind Black Friday deals start on Friday for amazon and as they own ring they will probably do some good deals.

  • Hmms. Just bought the Ring Bell 2 and chime at Costco for $249…. as a gift for the in-laws

What’s the difference between ring 2 and original?

    • +1

Those 2 stick it cams could be useful

1080P compared to 720P. Pretty sure original has to be hard wired whereas ring 2 has rechargeable batteries.

Correction - pro has to be hard wired. Original can be wireless. Comparison

    • 720p vs 1080p, fixed vs removable battery

The original is fine and is available for under $100 every now and then on its own. This is a good deal with all these extras.

    • +1

Ring 2 is full Hd i believe.
What makes this deal great is that you get two battery operated stick up cams (720p) that are decent if you are after a basic system that doesn't require a high internet connection.
Mine works allright outdoors after i bought a wifi range extender.. Some notification delays but i am happy overall.
Edit: the doorbell and the stick up cams are easy to remove and recharge with the included usb cable.. They fairly last between charges depending on how much motion you get and your settings.

    • I'm confused. Is there a hub? like a central point or something?
I know that Arlo have a remote way to set off an alarm at ~100db
      Is this weather resistant?

      • Runs off their app on my iPhone/device

        • So how long does it store or access playback?
Also can you set an alarm if you are at work to deter people?

          • +1

@Da dpG: Subscription service for video recording and no.

          • @Da dpG: You can speak to them through the 2 way audio and say that you are inside the house/ police on the way/ ask them to leave …

  • Can anyone recommend a video doorbell that is designed for weather exposure?

I'm looking to put something on our exterior fence, so I need something that can be mounted securely and withstand the elements.

    • +3

I'm running the Ring Pro on my fence near my driveway gate (ie on the street). I ran power from my gate motor outlet and put the ring power supply in a weather proof box mounted on the wall. I also have the Ring Pro mounted on/in a wedge kit that gives it some protection from the elements but essentially it is exposed.

      • Cheers for that info George.

I'm thinking i may give it a crack and I could always fab up a small housing to keep direct rain away.

Something like this, I just sprayed it black
          https://www.amazon.com/SunStateSpecialties-Degree-Angle-Door…

If you are a ring protect customer they will replace it if it breaks as well :)

          • +1

@George Z: Isn't Ring protect only in the USA? What if it gets stolen?

          • @George Z: I heard that but couldn't find anything official to indicate you have to be a protect customer. All I could find was that as long as you can provide a police report, they'll replace it.

            • @Hipsi: I was referring to the extended warranty (i.e. exposing the doorbell to the elements) not theft/damage, you are correct in that they don't explicitly state of you are covered though.

    • I've had this Ring doorbell for about a month on my front fence, full exposure, no problems. Mind you it's only rained here once since …….
I was able to pick up a V1 Stickup cam Solar Panel (with the micro usb connection) recently for $19 and it works a treat connected to my doorbell. No need for recharging, but you have to be able to access the back of the doorbell in its installed position for this to work.

      • Hey pls point me to the solar panels..can’t find any for $19

        • +1

It was on sale at JB recently. A while back it was actually $5 at Bunnings, but they cleared out all their stock. I actually think it would be fairly generic. Just a solar mobile phone charger really. It's 6V, 2W.

This or the Reolink Argus 2 deal? Help me out people

  • +1

Are the notification delays significantly noticeable? I wouldn't think 1080 vs 720 would make much difference on a mobile.

Is it easy for someone to just come and rip it off your door?

    • +3

I answered my doorbell today while I was at work. As it's on my front fence, by the time it connected on my app, the person had already let themselves in the gate, so all I saw was an empty footpath. I can't tell you how much delay there was, all I know is that there was enough. Upon checking the recorded video, it looks like they pretty much let themselves in straight after ringing the bell.

It would be pretty hard to rip it off as long as you attach it properly. The Ring is locked to its mount by a couple of torx screws, and the mount is fixed by the wall or whatever by 4 screws concealed by the ring itself.

      • Well that's a major flaw if you can't speak to whoever pressed your doorbell in time.

  • Can anyone let me know how loud the speaker is from the camera when using the 2 way audio? I want to have a friendly chat to our dogs if I see them digging.

    • +1

It's loud enough.. I speak to my wife and my 2 children while i'm at work and we hear each other fine (indoor and out door).
The stick up cameras don't seem to detect my two cats though.. Eh as if the little buggers would listen anyway 😼

  • +1

So 3 cameras in total, is it 3x$40/year cloud fee?

    • +1

Yep that's right, or $150 for as many cams as you can install at one address

  • Do the stick cams video recording save to the same subscription service as the doorbell if your already have one or do they require yet another subscription?

    • +1

you can group all you cameras under same subscription , i have few doorbell/floodlight…etc and all are under same account.

      • You cannot use your Individual subscription for multiple cameras. See the above reply for the price options.

  • +1

I’ve only got POE to my doorbell can anyone advise a decent POE doorbell?
