Home Security System Installation - DIY

Hey everyone,

Is it possible to buy a home alarm system and then get a sparky to install it. I have a mate who is an electrician so I will be able to get a good price with him.

I know Arlo have the cameras but not sure about an alarm system?

Thanks

Benny

    Do Yourself It?

  • Get a wireless unit like Digoo HOSA. If you have Wifi at home or a spare SIM card, you can control the unit from outside and also receive alerts. Sensors all works on batteries. Battery for the PIR sensor lasted me over 3 months in a high traffic area.

  • I am an electrician and installed my bosch 6000 system.

Hard to go past this mob for price and after sales assistance.

    • Which Bosch 6000 did you get? I noticed there a few different options in this range.

Was there much involved in setting it up?

      • I initially got the bosch 6000 and then added the 4G sim expander board and wireless expander board to it. 3 wired tritech detectors inside and 2 wireless ones outside. If I went again I would go all wireless detectors.
Cheap alarm parts had a good setup guide for dummies, as the control pad isn't straight forward. You will need an electrician for the instal. YOu could then frig around with the setup yourself. I bought wireless key fobs but don't ever use them.

        • Hey mate thank you! Is this the one that you would go with? https://www.cheapalarmparts.com.au/bosch-solution-6000-wifi-…

          • @PTG Benny: I added the 3G expander board. I haven't had a drama with mine but I have a feeling the tritech detectors have extra smarts over the standard sensors. My system is due for a battery change now. I use "Myalarm SMS control" to arm remotely and get sent SMS alerts from the alarm system. You will need an electrician for the wiring side of things.

  • Yes you can. I once got a DIY one from Dick Smith (back in the day). I already had a power outlet in the roof so did not require any new electrical work.

  • Thanks everyone for your replies, that is a big help now I know you can 'DIY'
