TRS Refund on FedEx/Customs GST Paid

Hi all,
I've read on other threads that you need the invoice to list gst ie. Amazon/eBay.

So what happens if you order something overseas that's over 2k and get billed gst by FedEx via customs?

I have the original invoice and the FedEx/customs gst amount email/pdf, but it's not on one invoice. It's billed to me and has my address+package slip etc.

You can't claim a GST refund on "goods purchased over the Internet and imported into Australia" as per the Border Force website.

    See https://www.abf.gov.au/entering-and-leaving-australia/touris….

but they can charge gst for incoming packages?

The actual intention behind the TRS Refund is to encourage tourists to spend money in Australia, buying stuff from Aussie businesses.

It's not really intended to be used by Australian residents to evade GST.

So, yes, the Border Force can charge GST on incoming packages & not reimburse it when the person goes overseas, because the spirit of the GST law is that you pay GST on anything you buy while you are resident in Australia.

Yeah fair enough but sometimes Australia doesn't sell certain items.
So you order it from overseas and have it delivered here because you don't want to risk mailing to South East Asia.
It will be leaving the country but I guess I'm still screwed with GST.

Pretty sure you need an ABN which you won't get from any overseas purchase
