    Do you have a cat?

    • +8

sorry my cat actually typed out this deal

  • Been using the Sharp air purifier and also the Dyson one. If it has the carbon filter it will remove the smoke small easier.

    • which sharp one do you use? I was using one in hotels in japan and loved it but they cost soo much

can't find any info on filter replacement cost / life

    • this is super important. Surprised no one cares about it.

    • A few retailers (eg Harvey Norman) stock them but in the past I used to buy direct from Philips when there was a sale on accessories/spare parts.

how it compares to the same price Xiaomi Air Purifier Pro?

    https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Smart-Air-Purifier-Pro…

    • +2

This has CADR rating 270, where the pro is at 500.

For price/performance ratio nothing beat the xiaomi, IF the rating is true.

  • Why don't these things let you set a timer? For example "Run from 2am to 4am". The Xiaomi does but you have to install an app to control it, which I sure as shit am not gonna do.

    • auto mode + night mode( pretty quite)

    • Why not?

Not OP but Xiaomi does a lot of dodgy things with their apps like running in the background with ports open sending data back on the regular to Chinese servers. Users have identified all sorts of Xiaomi apps sending data including the lightbulb app.

My old Xiaomi phone would also regularly reinstall apps and got ads after 1-2 years of use.

You can install aftermarket software but you need to jump through a few hoops requesting an unlock from Xiaomi before you get a code.
Supposedly that's improved now but it's still suss as hell.

        • Thanks, that does sound super dodgy… Who knows how many other companies are doing it undetected though. No point on wearing tin foil hats these days anymore

If you combine this $20 fan from bunnings

With this $28.88 filter from AliExpress

you can make this for 30cm box fan hepa filter for cheap https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Hkdpx-59kk

I imagine they would be better air flow and wouldn't need replacement filters as often (the surface are on these filters are pretty big)

Buy this and power it with a diesel generator in the same room. It’ll clean the particles out of the air. Winner winner chicken dinner.
