NYE Sydney 2019 on the Cahill Expressway

Hello all,

I was hoping to reach out to the community for some help. I have family coming from overseas for NYE and really want to show them a good time as they have always been so good to me. I am really keen to take them to a good vantage point in Sydney to view the NYE fireworks and so I entered the ballot to win tickets to access the Cahill Expressway. Unfortunately, I wasn't selected. These tickets are exclusively available through the ballot only. I was hoping there is someone out there that was successful, cannot make it and is happy to part with their tickets? I would be so grateful! Many thanks in advance :)

I thought I read that there would not be fireworks in Sydney this NYE?
Maybe it wasn't confirmed, but rather commentary in relation to the fires (and the $).

The hotel industry would have a fit.

    • That was a BS Social Media campaign.

The money has been spent. walk across the bridge and the control wires will be up by now.

I'm not a fan of the fireworks but the contracts were signed ages back and even if they cancelled the actual fireworks now the money would still have to be paid

  • Aw man, keep forgetting to enter that. When does it open so I can put a reminder for next year please!

  • What are the odds of winning a ticket?

I know it isn't the same but there are a few other decent vantage points around Sydney so don't lose heart if you can't get Cahill. I know Cahill Expressway is the best free one, but I wouldn't stress too much if you have to go to one of the others.

    • @jace88 what are the other good free ones?

      • What's important to you? Best possible view for free (even if you have to camp out from the moment the doors open at 8am)? Or do you want to be able to rock up in the evening and still have a decent spot?

I paid for Pirrama Park last year but realised I should've just done the free option since it was quite spacious (although it did rain a bit) and you could get in quite late without fear of it being overcrowded. It's not in the city so I think transport might be a bit easier too.

Check out official site for info on various vantage points: https://www.sydneynewyearseve.com/vantage-points/

        • yeah, i just want to "rock up in the evening and still have a decent spot"

          thanks for the link

          • @ATTS: Pirrama Park then. I think it's one of the few places where you can see things that doesn't get as crowded as the more popular vantage points. It's also a bit quieter I found and given I live on that side of the water, it's much easier to get to/from than the traditional ones towards Circular Quay/North Sydney (eg Mrs Macquaries Point).

            • @jace88: lol maybe you misunderstood me, i was asking for other GOOD FREE ONES, where you can rock up in the evening and still have decent spot?

haha, id rather spend money on food and drinks rather than a entry ticket.

179 – $200 for a ticket to Pirrama Park, seems expensive, was it worth it though? in your opinion? - compared to free spots

              • @ATTS: Pirrama Park has both free and ticketed. Or at least it did in the past?

                • @jace88: Oh my mistake. Dont know how i missed that thanks

Is the free pirrama park close to a station or ferry wharf?

                  • @ATTS: Ferry wharf yes but not sure if it’ll be operating. Train station is a walk though. Not sure if light rail will operate (presume yes) but if it does then that’s a link back to central. Obviously keep in mind public transport is known to be slow at the best of times let alone during NYE.

  • Anyone know good free spots close to train station?… i dont know the area well

Barangaroo is cheap, especially for concession and children

    • sorry its sold out, just checked. There are free places like Coogee that have seperate events

    • Just wondering what the price was for barangaroo? Might consider next year since sold out

      • 5 for kids, 20 for concession, 40 for adults

        • Thanks

  • Like mentioned above, Try https://www.sydneynewyearseve.com/vantage-points/

There are a few free options, and some others that start at only $10

  • I dont recommend Bradfield Park, the only place I tried. Its under the bridge too much.

    • Years ago I was actually ON the bridge during fireworks, which was a unique way of seeing - and feeling - them.

    • Good to know, thanks!

  • Did you receive an email to say you were unsuccessful? I put in for tickets but haven’t heard anything back, so was just assuming that if I don’t hear from them by 22/11 it’s not gonna happen.

    • No email yet. NSW Roads facebook posted on 6 November saying redemption emails are out and can only redeem until 8 November. No luck on my end yet unfortunately

    • Got my official rejection e-mail today if that helps
