Checking You Have The Best Electricity Plan - Beat Your Bill (Beatyourbill.com.au)

Moved to Forum: Original Link

G'day,

This is not a deal but a new independent Australian service that allows to check whether you're getting the best deal with your current electricity provider. I am a Victorian and have used this as a way to save ~$100 per year. It's pretty nifty and relies on your uploading original PDF tax invoices/statements of your bill. It was created by two locals who have experience in the Energy sector. The free version shows you what deals (compared to your current plan) saves you <$100 per year while the premium version discloses the companies that save you >$100. Premium version is a $30 once off payment. You could possibly share a premium account with family and mates (however I am not sure if there are barriers to applying numerous properties to stop this). I should mention that it appears to be advertised for all parts of Australia (it worked perfectly for me as an Victorian) however I do not know how other states/territories work for electricity). I am not affiliated with this company at all and just wanted to exposure this site as a possible way to save a few bucks. I know with bills, even us ozbargain-ers fail to investigate what's the best for us.

Checking You Have Shared Your Details With Us or Not?

    • Sorry - what details do you mean specifically?

What's wrong using the Vic gov site?

Good Question - you could argue that is perfectly suitable (and free) alternative. You can use this in other part of Australia - i.e. Non-Victoria. Furthermore, its ridiculously simple and easy to compare your bill month-to-month + explains in easy steps how to transfer companies. You're right, it is $30 to access the larger savings however I a massive fan and advocate for independent and novel start-ups (especially Aussie) that try to help the everyday Australian. PLus, I feel people wouldn't use the Vic Site gov site as they're 'too lazy' and this offers a very quick and easy way of achieving the best price. Hence the support. It definitely uses the Vic Gov Site as part of its algorithm. But again, fair question.

        novel start-ups

        nope.

try to help the everyday Australian

premium version? what do you get for the extra $30? … nope

        • Hello bethepro and ihbh,

The main difference are that we analyse your bill, make it easy and store your bills for easy access, and we easily allow you to see how much you can save on all relevant competing offers.

          Regards, Bruce Mountain.

      • I wouldn't say it is a suitable free alternative. My reading of the website is that it only provides the lower saving offers for free, you pay to see the higher saving offers.
Victorian Energy Compare and Energy Made Easy elsewhere (other than WA), provide all offers and savings for free.

The only benefit of this site is that it reads your bills for you and doesn't require manual input. Not sure that's worth $30/year to many people. That really eats into the savings you'll be getting. But good luck to them I guess, maybe there is a market for that…
It also stores your bills and details, but not sure providing them with that data is really a great benefit to the consumer. Probably a good deal for them though. Free data!

If you have a login for microsoft, google, apple or facebook accounts - that's more of a concern and nothing compared to this.

What kills me is the supply charges. $100 per quarter here in QLD. If it wasn't for those our solar would have netted us money every quarter instead.

there's no way I upload my bill with personal information into a random website.
what's wrong with entering data manually. it only takes few seconds.

      Hello Bargain80

Manual data entry many customers find difficult, but in addition it requires a very great deal of knowledge to understand bills, particularly in respect of discounts and solar feed-in.

beatyourbill.com.au is not a random website. We are very transparant and you can contact me directly through the site.

      Regards,

      Bruce Mountain

The Vic Gov site is free.

OP's recommended site costs $30 and isn't even a secure site (not a HTTPS site).

Sounds more like an invitation to be ripped off or slammed and then spammed for ever.

    • Hello Hithere

      Our site is HTTPS.

OP's original post and response to dasher86 makes them sound like nothing but a company shill.

      Hello Zeggie

I am one of the two co-founders of Beatyourbill. I can reassure you that we are not a company shill. To be clear we have absolutely no knowledge of the person who started this strand of comments. But we were very interested to read this.I would be very interested in any thoughts you have on whether our service is worthwhile. Please do take a look and post your thoughts. Thank you, Bruce Mountain
