Waiting for the brown rice to get half price.
Coles is currently half price at $8
Thanks! I swear I checked the catalogue and didn’t see it.
Catalogue usually shows the medium grain white rice only.
finally!! been waiting around for this to go on sale!
I bought the 25kg one (can’t remember the brand right now but also product of Cambodia) for $50 from the Asian shops (not available at every shop) and found the rice to be softer and tastier than the Sunrice 5kg ones. Worth the difference to me.
Do we grow any jasmine rice anymore?
Yes but under a different specie I believe. They call it topaz (hybrid between jasmine and something else). However, not much rice this year due to water shortage
Thanks. I'll keep an eye out for it. Can't see it at Colesworth with a quick browse. Asian store? Also, would have thought rice was grown in FNQ where they literally have too much water?
Coles and Woolworths have gone exclusively for the imported stuff. Local grocers May have the Australian equivalent.
It doesn't have any jasmine flavour. Bought 5kg last time from Coles still have half left.
Probably the jasmine flavour was concentrated in the bottom half because you forgot to shake it before you used it.
My wife is Thai, so she's fussy about her rice. She's quite happy to buy this at half price. She reckons it quite acceptable. I cant tell the difference myself
I remember three years ago when half price was $5. So the price has gone up 70% in three years. Invest in rice companies, highly sought after commodity.
Coles have jacked the regular price to $20, so expect half price to soon be $10.
Unbelievable.
It's a good trick though. Anytime anyone wants the RRP of something to go up, they just put it as half price of the price they want it to be.
Cadbury's king (more like joker) size use to be 275g, and only $2. Now it's $5 and only 200g total.
I understand it, but it's funny watching marketers trick you.
Price should have actually gone down for rice. There has been a world wide glut with Thailand having many more competitors. Looks like supermarkets putting the price up.
If you go to Asian supermarket, try the brand called "Golden Phoenix", really great jasmine rice and once you eaten them you don't want to go back to this Sunrice jasmine.
I have been buying the brand Golden Dragon (Red dragon logo) for over 5 years. Not sure if it's the same but the Jasmine rice is consistently jasmined, moist, and slightly sticky.
7.5 is the best price
