This will go well with the washing liquid and chamois I scored last week that still hasn’t been used. Cheers, OP.

Probably the right price for these . Cheers DB will stock up

  • Goes with the best joke.
what is red and looks like a bucket?

  • Thanks, great timing, I've just used up/broken the last set from a previous deal a couple of years back. Neither bucket nor sponge are worth RRP, but at $1 for a combo there's nothing wrong with stocking up :-)

  • how does "Loyalty credit" work? i got 50c credit but cant find how to use it? Thanks

0%. Loyalty credits are issued as part of SCA's lowest price guarantee or as part of its promotions and competitions.

FYI - don’t use a sponge to wash your car. You’ll create a ton of scratches which will damage the paint work. If you care about how your car looks, spend a little extra on a micro fibre mitt instead.

    • -1

Best tip ever: don't wash your car on a regular basis at all. Only when it is soiled with something that, if left on, will cause more damage to the paint then washing the car.

I average washing it somewhere between once to twice a year and the paint of the 16 year old car looks like new. (Apart from scratches where someone keyed it and where I scratched it loading/unloading the roof rack).

What should I do if I have a black car that is a magnet for dust and looks like an abandoned homeless shitbox if I don't wash it weekly?

        • +6

Paint it the same as the colour of the dust.

        • Have you thought about upgrading to a new colour? lol

        • Yep, silver might be boring, it always was, even 16 years ago, but I don't have that problem.

Nor does it heat up very quickly when parked in the sun (I put up a sunshade if the sun hits the windscreen).

          • @team teri: Thanks for the tip, genius.

        • But even for you there's a solution: just stop caring what it looks like ;-)

      • Better still buy a brand new car every 5 years and don’t Care.

      • +5

That is terrible advice re not washing your car on a regular basis.
There are many bonded contaminants that you can’t see with the naked eye.

Taking precautions such as snow foam pre wash, two bucket method, grit guards are the best way to minimise scratches and marring. Not regularly washing just means you have to deeply decontaminate more often

        • Yep I have washed my car on average every 2 to 3 weeks. Polish every year.
When I sold it 10 years later the buyer was amazing. He had seen similar cars or same age that were showing age and brought mine on the spot without negotiating and said it was like new.

      • +3

@ team teri: No offence, but I think you may have a different definition of "car looks like new" to someone who obsesses over their car. Washing a car twice a year is not the correct way to look after your paint if you want it to look good for many years.

Even better (if it's within your budget): a lambswool mitt. Get them when SCA do a 30% off deal on meguiars. Autobarn also do rather frequent 30% on these

    • Just curious what material in the sponge cause scratches?

      • -2

Nothing if clean some people are just ocd.

        • +2

It’s not about the cleaning (the sponge will do an ok job), it’s the process of cleaning where a sponge will scrape dirt particles into your paint, and thus causing scratches. You won’t see it straight away, but regular use of the sponge and they will become quite apparent.

      • +1

it's just how the sponge is constructed. all those holes like swiss cheese. they pull the dirt off ok, but when you go to rinse it (in another bucket like you should be doing ;), the dirt won't release from the sponge easily.

microfibre is better in the sense that it will trap and release the dirt heaps better than a sponge. but you also have to look after the microfibre mitt — washing it in cold water, not using harsh detergents, letting it air dry — otherwise that too can cause scratches.

then you have lambswool which is the softest of the three.

        • I've been using a microfibre "noodle" mitt for years. Somehow I still manage to leave swirl marks after paint correction! Would you think lambswool is even better?

  • Anyone else having a problem with payment? Paypal and Credit Card are both being rejected.

  • Thanks OP got one!

  • +1

For a carwashing the $6.50 Kmart 20L bucket is more suitable, it is taller/deeper so grime at the bottom less likely to be agitated. The build quality is much solid, handle is metal and being black the plastic is probably UV stable. I own a few for years now.

I don't like the $1 disposable bucket it's false economy and not environment friendly.

  • Thanks OP just grabbed one
