  • thanks. bought 2x.

  • Does it work with 2 stroke line trimmer

    • sort of … but no.

    • 2-stroke oil works with a 2-stroke line trimmer, not engine oil.

      • lol :)

      • What about 4 stroke lawn mower?

If your lawn mower calls for SAE30 or 5W30, should work well. A 5W-30 oil acts like an SAE30 oil when warm, but it's thinner (the viscosity of SAE5) when cold. Most mowers call for SAE30.

          • @Spam Service: Yeah it's a B&S 450 requiring SAE30. Actually would 5W-40 be okay too? I've got some left over Vavoline full synthetic.

@CVonC: It would work, but it's a bit thicker than what's called for, so not ideal if the engine isn't old. If the engine is old then 5W-40 would probably be better (the clearances wear over time, and a thicker oil works better).

  • These sales makes me feel like changing engine oil at least once a month :D

These deals make me think about what I could actually do with said oil. Might try use it on the deck, or should i use synthetic for that?

Buy some tarp while you're at SCA, find a hill, make slippery slide.

Just be aware that this is Semi-Synthetic and not Fully synthetic

    • At $15, just change it twice as often and you're good.

      • Is that really true. Surely a fully sinthetic oil will protect your engine better?

        • +1

The main reason to use full synthetic is that it doesn't break down as quickly. If you use a mineral 5W-30 for 10,000kms, by the end it will probably act like a 5W-10. But a full synthetic won't break down as fast, and will probably be closer to a 5W-25. If you change the oil more frequently you keep the benefits of the more viscous oil when warm, but you're also changing out the contaminants faster, since you remove a lot of grime when you change the oil too.

Synthetic oils do also tend to have a lot of modifiers which may add additional benefits, but I'm not sure if that offsets the benefits of changing the oil more frequently to keep the oil cleaner.
