Red Planet are a great mid-range hotel chain with hotels in Japan, Thailand, Indonesia and The Philippines. I have personally stayed in their Nagoya and Makati hotels and highly recommend them for the price even when not on special.

Can you even ozbargain if you don't have a credit card?
I'd recommend getting a Citibank debit card. They don't charge overseas ATM fees or foreign transaction fees and are one of the more usable cards at ATMs in Japan.

Yes, just use your debit card to book the room online. Citi will convert JPY to AUD at the Mastercard rate which is usually better than what you could get from a foreign exchange merchant.

Just had a look at their Bangkok hotels, both are shoe boxes. OK if flying in at night and leaving in the morning, otherwise if staying for a few days, I would pay more at a hotel with bigger rooms.
i'm going to tokyo next year march, their tokyo hotel currency is in jpy, how do pay wisely? mine is in aud, i have ing and other aussie bank debit cards, i don't have a credit card, thanks a lot.
