Even cheaper than yesterday's price at George's.
Part of their 15% off storewide sale.

Cracker lens.

For those with Amex, the George's camera deal was SLIGHTLY cheaper after the $50 CB offer.

SAMYANG 85mm f/1.4 AF Sony FE Full Frame - $881.45

I personally prefer the SEL85 but this is actually a pretty good price for local stock.
It's usually floating around $999.

Or intentionally buy it more expensive on ebay and invoke their best price beat policy for effectively extra 5% off

  • The Sony E PZ 18-105 F4 OSS for $584.80 is an excellent price. https://www.digidirect.com.au/lenses/sony-e-pz-18-105mm-f-4-…

Good time to get the Sony FE 35mm F1.8 if you have amex cashback promotion , get Sony to price match digidirect , effectively bring it down to 859

I personally prefer 55 over 35. But good price for 35

If you're near a sony kiosk, get them to price match and stack with amex and cashrewards $70 back

      • The one I was at yesterday said they don't stack with coupons or cashback deals, ebay coupons etc.

      • i think the cash-reward $70 back is limited to visa and mastercard only?

        • Ah yes you’re right. I guess purchases of over $1000 you could split payment to get max value

  • Great little lens.

On the hunt for a sony 24 105. Need that little bit more range. Hard to find a bargain though.
Please black friday bring it home!

    • I’m hanging out for 70200 f4 haha

      • What price are you realistically hoping to get it for? I posted at deal in September where it was ~$1305 delivered.

I paid personally $1465 2 years ago which was good then and our dollar has crashed further since then.

        • Currently waiting to see if Sony online will match digidirect and let me stack Amex for $1327 after credit… or I guess wait for 2020 release of tamron 70-180

Its actually still the same price on eBay video pro but they have no stock :(

  • Guys is it worth returning the SEL85 from JB HiFi during their last sale to get the Samyang 85 1.4?

    • +1

imo no - not worth the hassle but that’s up to you. They might also try to stick ya with a store credit especially if you’ve already opened and used it.

      • I thought i have 30 days return policy

        • Doesn’t say cash refund for change of mind last time I checked… you can try though?

          • @Jimothy Wongingtons: You've bring a good point. I guest the SEL85 is good enough, maybe i should just keep what i got.
I should just save up for 70-180 Tamron once its available next year

            • @sageybadegey: I just tried my Samyang 85mm f1.4 last night. It is a beast in lowlight situations coupled with the a7iii. Have not tried the Sony 85mm f1.8 but heard that it is also a beast.

I think if you have to ask, the answer is no. Are you going to use the extra 2/3 of a stop?

You have to weigh up the pro's and cons.
Sony is smaller and lighter and has a programmable button and an AF/MF switch and probably faster autofocus.
Samyang has an extra 2/3's stop of light.

    • I'm very happy with SEL85F18. But f1.4 bokeh monster (I had the old last decade samyang manual 85 f1.4) can be fun too. For everyday use I like the sony speed, quiet operation, and lighter weight.
