Wow…is it time to replace my LG V30?!?!?!?!

And with alll these Xiaomi phones coming up for sales on 11.11…Tough decisions.

  • The sales of history is fully packed by resellers. Amazing…

  • +4

im still procastinating on my purchase, this or mi mix 3, or 9t pro or mi 9 or or or or???

    • ditto…. as below

    • Yeah tough decision. My 2 cents worth. Go for the Mi 9t pro. Overall it ticks most of the boxes when it comes to camera, battery etc etc.

    • MI 9T pro since there's a ton of development on Xda forums and you're guaranteed there'll be frequent android roms for many years

    • Mi 9t pro is the option to go for if you have the money.

The Mi Mix 3 would be a head turner for some friends because of the slide feature.

But overall the 9t pro is the better phone.

      • with that damned pop up selfie camera :D

        • Mi 9 for me, Mi 9T is too thick and heavy for my liking.

    • +3

OS wise LG maybe a bit better than Xiaomi 9t pro. But 9t pro has better camera. No warranty.

LG has local warranty better sound

  • This, or the Xiaomi Mix 3 4G Dual Sim (https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Xiaomi-Mi-Mix-3-Dual-Sim-6GB-RAM…)?

I'm a little torn in choice.

I generally keep my phones for 4 years, so don't think going to a 5G phone at the point of 5G infancy is a good idea, and will wait for next gen 5G.

    • Wireless charginbg vs 3 tri camera… depends if you prefer photography or tech

      • Not really interested in the wireless charging, and don't care about dual sim either.

Photography and battery for me. I'm a light user overall.

Waiting for sub $300s…. V30 still going strong :)

    • I just want a V30 to use as a dedicated music player.

      • There are some with b grade screens that can be had second hand from the US cheap on ebay

  • If you care about wired audio, there's no better phone (other than other LG models)

  • Is the Quad DAC in this V40 exactly the same as the one in V30+?

    • +2

As far as I'm aware it's basically the same. If you want a Quad DAC phone this and the G7 are the last Aus models with it built in. The V50 and G8 are crappy variations, so I'll either be going this or a G7 to replace my V20.

      • Didn't know that. Where have you seen this? I know the G8s lacks a quad dac, but thought the V50 had it?

        • Actually looks like you are right, judging from the LG Australia site. The V50 has hi-fi audio listed under tech specs, and the G8 doesn't. I was pissed that they tried to peddle a feature stripped G8, but it looks like they decided to release the proper V50 (thank God!)

V20 still powering. Ive had 3 bloating batteries though.

    • +3

I'm still running my V20 as well. Factory reset once a year and replace the battery every 2 years and it continues working perfectly.

      • +1

Where is the best place to replace batteries? LG service centres?

        • Buy them on Ebay as LG most likely won't have stock due to how old the phone is.
I'd also avoid the 2019.01 dated batteries as they're the ones that seem to bloat. The 2018 made ones I don't seem to have issue with.

          • @Pizdets: Do you replace them yourself or pay the mobile phone repair stores to do it?

            • +2

@BuyNow Think Later: The v20 has user replaceable batteries. Buy the battery and replace it yourself.

I have 2 batteries for my v20 which i alternate using.

        • +1

LG service centre replaces the v30 battery for $88 and says it is genuine LG battery and that the phone will still be water resistant.
V20 battery should be cheaper as they are removable.

        • I got one a few weeks ago for my v20 from here:

          https://www.ebay.com.au/p/25034407295?iid=223714954758

Less than 6 months old and lasts twice as long as my OG one.

    • My v20 failed recently :(. The charging port malfunctioned and the bottom of the phone started melting. Luckily I found it before it blew up or burnt down house. LG won’t fix without charging because it’s outside warranty window.

      • If it's only the charging port that is damaged, might be able to replace it yourself. I'm not knowledgeable about the v20, but I did swap the charging port on some old nexus 4 last year.

    • +1

Also still running a V20, my battery died in the first 12 months and I have been using it with a Zero Lemon 10000 mAh battery and case kit. Works great as my bush walking phone, easily lasts 4 nights / 5 days.

    • If you're looking for V20 batteries, I would recommend the perfine 4200mAh batteries. They're a bit heavier but they fit in the original case. I did have to remove the stickers to get it to shut properly though.

    • Hmm true

  • Good phone

  • +2

my lg v20 and v30 both had noticeably poorer reception/data connectivity compared to other phones i have had, this is a common issue with lg phones. Do your research..

    • My lg v20 has weak reception as well…

  • Anyone have this phone and like it? Wondering about all the reviews which say the battery life is pretty bad. I have a V20 at the moment, so know all about poor battery life.
