I believe price in title should be pre-cashback (or at least add after cashback)

  • I've used the 2017/2018 model of these units and have been very impressed. Small touches make it preferable to the Fujitsu 2.5kw I own.

    • Can you elaborate?

He gently touches his air conditioner for short periods of time.

      • +2

Apart from the gentle caressing of air on my body, a few thoughts:
        - Louvres open much quicker at start and open a lot wider than my Fujitsu ASTG09KMCA
        - Fan seems to be more effective at distributing airflow
        - Remote is more responsive and has fewer buttons making it more intuitive
        - nanoeX system acts like an air purifier even with the air-conditioning off (uncertain how effective it is, but probably on par with my Xiaomi Air Purifier 2S)
        - Less moaning and groaning (nothing to do with gently touching it) when it operates!

Other than that, I get the impression cooling and heating seems to kick in a bit quicker than the Fujitsu. Both are great, and my observations are subjective from 2 different properties with different environmental factors too, but the points above in my opinion make the Panasonic preferable.

        • Lots people overlook the benefit of nanoeX. It deactivates microbes in the air and prevents moulding and odours.

          • @catbin: Have you actually measured this or are you just making a sales pitch?

            • +1

              @kranix: I have 2 panos. 1 altec. and 1 LG.

if odours are subjective, the presence of mould is a very objective evidence of pano's superiority. after many years, the fins in the condenser are still blue and shining, whereas other units became dark and oxidated. Seeing through the air outlet of the indoor unit, pano is just a bit dusty, no mould spots which are present on the other units.

  • My tip to buying air conditioners is to find an installer who comes out and give you a quote.
They can help size it up properly and they source the air conditioners at trade prices.

Yeah, thats usually bullshit. I didnt do my research properly and paid $1550 to get this exact same unit installed at the beginning of this year "at trade prices" only to find out that I could have bought it cheaper and installed it by the same installer for $660. Total would have been a few hundred cheaper than what I paid.

And with that submission, I hand back my Ozbargain badge.

      • Your experiences may differ from mine and I respect that. When I had mine installed, I went to Hipages for a quote to supply and install and the cheapest quote came out to about $300 more than I could have bought the unit alone for. And no installer would install it for only $300 so I can only conclude he got the air conditioner cheaper than I could.

        • If you look at RRP prices, yes, of course their prices will be cheaper. There are constantly deals coming up on air cons (incl good brand ones). If you prefer a specific one, then it might be harder otherwise pick one up on a deal and get it installed. Should definitely be cheaper. But hey, if you have done your research, then good on you.

Yep, I had a Panasonic 7kw split system installed 2-3 years ago and it was cheaper to source the unit myself (I think it was one of the 20% ebay sale) than go through the tradie at their "trade price" Your mileage may vary.

How are these guys associated to Betta?

        • No clue - all I know is I got an invoice from Betta lol.
According to Google there is a Powerland Betta store - don't know how they're associated though

  • Decision, decision! Do I need 1?

  • What size room will this be suitable for?

I installed 3 of these units 12 months ago and i'm not impressed.
2 of the 3 units have had problems.
Motor needed replacing in 1 unit
Another unit has issues with rubbers coming loose all the time resulting it loud noise from the outdoor unit.
The 3rd ac get very little use and that's probably why i have no issues to date.

I have an older Panasonic system installed (3 years ago) and never had a problem with it.
IMO the newer units are cheaply made and of poor quality.
To be fair all issues are being addressed under warranty but time consuming and disappointing.

    • good real world review.
Like yourself, I had a 7kw Panasonic system installed at my investment property 2-3 years ago and had no issues so far.
